I see that some people are wondering if more work could be done in schools to combat antisemitism. If that's deemed to be a good idea, I wonder if people will turn to any Jewish authors who write for children. Perhaps some kind of conference where those writers could speak?

Seven unions - NEU, NASUWT, UNISON, Unite, GMB, Assocition of Education Psychologists and Community - issue statement warning that gov plans for every school to join an academy trust "will reinforce and exacerbate fragmentation of schools and divert money away from pupils."

This Easter, we remember: Israel obliterated the mausoleum of Simon Peter, the Apostle of Christ, in Shama, southern Lebanon. A sacred site that stood for over 2,000 years, now in ruins. This is a war crime. This is a crime against history.

@BenGrahamUK You forgot other taxes including VAT (180 billion) and NI (205 billion). You also forget to say that 48% of the welfare budget is spent on state pensions. That’s 716 billion raised by the major taxes and 173 billion in welfare to the poor. Seems fair to me.

The UK has crossed a line. Welfare spending: £333 billion Income tax revenue: £331 billion We’re now paying out more than we bring in from workers. This is unsustainable.

Can someone remind the Jewish community in Golders Green that this is London and not Israel. And an Al Jazeera reporter is welcome to report on the arson attack, just as any other journalists are. Cannot believe what I'm watching right now.

@christianjbdev That’s your view not the Guardian’s. Gail’s owner Bain Capital (PE) is guilty of undermining successful small businesses and is part of the clone high street brigade which destroys diversity and keeps us in hock to US business. Imagine this happening in France. Never!

The Guardian: Even tho a bakery which had a Jewish founder is a British business (technically, we guess), it’s clearly an act of aggression for a Jew-store to open near a salt-of-the-earth independently owned Palestinian cafe. theguardian.com/commentisfree/

@MichaelRosenYes The elephant in the room here is synthetic phonics. How far has this Gove/Gibb initiative taken away the joy of reading? This from the forthcoming Socialist Educational Association book on the shortcomings of the Francis curriculum review. dropbox.com/scl/fi/854af52…

@FraserNelson @mcdon_al If education is just about memory of formulae and not about thinking and manipulating them than we are truly lost. Those without access to the privileged education you had, will not have to waste their valuable time being parrots decreasing not increasing inequality.

You can bet private school kids will still be taught and expected to memorise equations. This dumbing down - by ministerial diktat - will only deepen inequality: a case study in the soft bigotry of low expectations.
Jack Elsom@JackElsom

The days of GCSE pupils memorising equations and formulae from memory are now officially over. Schools minister Georgia Gould has written to Ofqual to say that "for the lifetime of the current GCSE specifications in these subjects, students should not be required to memorise formulae and equations for assessment purposes." Dumbing down or common sense?

@Channel4News Hey C4 news, why no mention of the campaign to renationalise water by @labourlewis ? Dirty Business is brilliant but your news item implies that no politician has taken this seriously. Not true.

@warwickmansell Has a deal here been done? The hysterical opposition to the very modest limitations to MATS freedoms and powers in the Schools Bill has subsided of late.

@bbcquestiontime politics is a spectrum in the uk and Labour is now a centrist party with a small left wing fringe. Two rightists plus two centrists does not equal balance. Where was the left last night? Shocking bias!

#r4today Why is Emma Barnett defending international piracy? Is this what the Beeb has become in the name of impartiality. A proponent of ‘might is right’?
