@LTJG_Weinberg @PaulAnleitner Sorry to be a nerd, but it’s not that lightsaber. That was lost along with Luke’s hand on Bespin. It’s the lightsaber Luke built in ROTJ. 🤓

@PaulAnleitner This scene upsets me the most. Remember, this is his father’s lightsaber, gifted by Obi-Wan and the last time Luke held it, his hand was cut off by his father, as Luke is told who he is. This item is everything to Luke. And in TLJ he throws it away for a joke. Criminal.

This moment in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) was when I knew the postmodern deconstruction of our culture was reaching its apex. It’s hard to believe now that this was a real scene.

@UKDecline Seriously, I couldn’t sleep because of this! I have friends who did something similar to a 1930s detached on the south coast - ripped out all the period features and added shitty UPVC cladding. It’s not quite as bad as the one you shared, but it really shouldn’t be allowed.

@HorrorCarnival Nice! I like the way all the images are from A New Hope, with none of that post 1983 garbage. Although, that shot of Jabba is a 90s addition, which was a bit kitsch. The original trilogy is still the best! 👍🏻

@AntipodeEmpire The UK should never have joined the EEC/EU. We turned our backs on our people in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. But the British made the right decision to leave the EU, and now it’s time to restore our links with the British diasporas around the world. Bring on CANZUK!

"You [the British] told us that you were now Europeans, which we as New Zealanders were not... What you did, of course, was irrevocably and unilaterally to disrupt a concept of Britishness which we had supposed to share with you... In effect, you threw your identity, as well as ours, into a condition of contingency, in which you have to decide whether it is possible to be both British and European..., while we have to decide in what sense if any we continue to be British or have a British history." — Professor J.G.A. Pocock 🇳🇿 in 1973 on Britain joining the European Economic Community

@acteduweininger Aus and NZ weren't at the stage where they really had a solid (and independent) nationalist identity before they were the colonial empires were killed of, and I think it really stunted our cultural development, like kicking a child out and them ending up on the street.

Banksy is a faux-radical poser. His impulses are shared by the King of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lord Chancellor, the Attorney General, the Director General of the BBC, and the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. These are not counter-cultural bedfellows.

@NickDixon It’s a great performance of a beautiful song. I came across John Martyn’s work via Nick Drake, both of whom were great performers. If you’re into chilled acoustic music, you might like the Kings of Convenience.

Is this John Martyn’s greatest live performance? Certainly one of his best songs. Though I also love the entire London Conversation album.

@angloid0 Nice! The Pax Brittanica trilogy is decent. Ferguson’s ‘Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World’, and Nigel Biggar’s ‘Colonialism: A Moral Reckoning’ are worth reading too. Also, Lawrence James has written some great books on various empire subjects.

@YoungBobRB I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. It used to be such a nice place. Unfortunately, the university is currently dominated by left wing ideologues and most of their students are indoctrinated. Something needs to be done.

Today, I was at the University of Bristol doing my weekly Change My Mind stand, and honestly, what I saw completely shocked me. This has to be one of the worst universities I’ve been to in the country. First off, I want to address the usual criticism people on the right get when doing campus debates. People say it doesn’t have any long-term impact, and that it’s already obvious universities are dominated by the left anyway. That being said, what happened today crossed a line. Members of the pro-life society at Bristol Uni were intimidated, mocked, and even threatened by left-wing activists. My equipment was taken, I was physically confronted, and my cameraman was hit with racist remarks. This is easily the most woke university I’ve toured so far, and something has to be done. So here’s what’s happening next. My lawyers will be sending letters to the University of Bristol demanding immediate action against both staff and students who behaved unlawfully. I’ll also be pushing forward with police reports against those involved in any kind of violence. With term ending soon, I’ve also been speaking to students at other universities about setting up new chapters across the country ready for the next academic year. I’ll be carrying on with these debate stands too, especially in city centres and places known for being woke. What stood out most is how many right-wing students in Bristol are actually scared to speak up. They feel intimidated, mocked, and shut down. At some point, someone has to step in and start taking these universities back.

@Martypizzle @YoungBobRB Bristol was one of the finest cities in England. I always loved visiting Clifton, walking along Park Street, going to the Wills Memorial Building, the museum, Cathedral, Hippodrome and shops. It’s such a shame that it’s become the home of such ignorant degenerates.

@YoungBobRB Bristol has imported massive amount of woke people over the last 10 to 20 years. It's easily the woke capital of enegland but none of them are actually Bristolian. As a Bristolian, myself and many others have left due to these crazy unhinged people. R.i.P bristol

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth No. You explained that Chinese laws have a similar foundation as Korean laws, but what does that have to do with the Anglo-Chinese War? Did you know that many of the laws in the USA are based on English common law? It's a fact that also has no connection to the 'Opium War'!

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth Opium 'served as a material for medical or practical purposes' - that's what I've been saying! Also, 'it couldn't be completely eradicated'? Then why demonise the British for selling it? And why attack British subjects (including women and children) as they were being evacuated?

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth Then Qing authorities should have been executed, as they allowed the selling of opium for centuries and ruined countless lives. If a foreigner is caught selling drugs in the UK they'll get a fine or prison, but their families won't be attacked as they're leaving the country.

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth There's always preparations for war. But if one nation attacks the subjects of another nation, and seizes their property, then a reason exists for war. The Qing gave the British a reason for war.

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth China was/is an economic power house because of its size. But the British had industrialised & would have surpassed China economically without the war/trade. Yes, nations have the right to refuse trade. But if a nation attacks the subjects of another nation it can result in war.

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth I didn’t say the Chinese killed British people during the evacuation of Canton. I said, British subjects were attacked. They were attacked and harassed by the Chinese authorities and residents while they were being evacuated. This changed British public feeling over the issue.

@idongju17590362 @SinoopyS @Empireaesth Try and consider the opium trade in its proper historical context. Opium wasn’t considered an illegal narcotic by the Europeans in the 19th c, and the Qing had endorsed the trade for centuries. The clash occurred due to the Qing’s disregard for British subjects and property.
