@MyWorldView8 @7Kiwi But if your neighbour saw the majority of people not pay tax, s/he'd be entitled to question why s/he should bother.

@7Kiwi Do tell us Dave, how my neighbour's tax contribution, which is itself only a tiny fraction of the UK tax revenue, will end up as a treasury income of £310bn a year.

Yes. In the group of countries to which it compares UK performance it gives huge weight to the USA, which has been an outlier when it comes to growth in recent years against all EU economies. It is a very shoddy piece of work, motivated by ideology rather than unbiased research.

@afneil Is this study from Stanford University, King's College London and Nottingham University 'nonsense' too?

@dstephenh99 @afneil And you're attributing them to Brexit how exactly? In case you've been asleep, we've been governed by absolute morons for the last few years.

@dstephenh99 @afneil If that was the case, it would be evident in real-world data. It's not, so these charlatans have to rely on models which are complete garbage.

@dstephenh99 @afneil Or you could just use your brain and apply some critical thinking. Here's something to help you on your way: modelling isn't evidence. God speed.

I’ll leave others to continue litigating Brexit, Carl, but these figures are nonsense. Just consider — for them to be true Britain would have been just about the fastest growing advanced economy in the world, up there with America, if we’d stayed in the EU, way ahead of rest of EU’s major economies. At a time when our biggest market — the EU — was stagnating growth wise. What would have made the British economy so exceptional in such circumstances? Magic beans? It’s simply not credible.
Carl Bildt@carlbildt

Brexit has made the 🇬🇧 economy lose 6-8% of its GDP according to new studies. That’s three times defence spending. Huge loss.

Very encouraging — bar the fact we’re paying close to the highest electricity prices in the world for the privilege. Thanks a lot.
Ken Hobbs@ken_hobbs

@afneil Steady on Andrew. That almost sounds positive for you! PS. Currently 53% of our electricity is being generated by renewables. Just so you know they are useful.
