@jeffr0 Extremely easy path for seamless layoffs. Paying a little to lose the people who want to go is a win.

I've been told by a few sources that it's not a rumor. I don't understand. If you're not with Matt, you're against Matt and he'll pay you to leave? Seems like an odd way of going about things.

WordPress ecosystem recruiter alert: Rumor has it Automattic has invited employees who are not aligned with the actions of CEO to exit with a handsome payout. Good time to troll LinkedIn for talent if you're quick. Folks have to decide by Thursday.

There's lots of interesting stuff in WP Engine's legal document and they have excellent lawyers, but my favorite part is the screenshot from their website in 2010. I hope we can all unite in agreeing that misspelling WordPress is a serious crime 🧑‍🤝‍🧑😞 wpengine.com/wp-content/upl…

I feel like if you were arrested during a WordCamp and posted bail to make the after party, maybe you shouldn't be allowed at WordCamps? 🤷‍♂️

@andrewhoyer “Not much. One defaults to block, one to inline.” Even though you’d think by the name, span, it SPANS the full width but actually no 😅

You're in an interview and they ask what the difference between a <div> and a <span> is. What do you reply with?

Reddit mods are planning a blackout tomorrow. While it is only around 5K subreddits, turns out a *large* portion of Reddit will go dark. reddit.com/r/dataisbeauti…

@adambsilver Does it matter for any reason other than HTML semantics/JS functionality? A link can easily be styled as a button and a button can easily be styled as a link. Users regularly use the terms interchangeably. Is there any reason<button>s can’t go away and be replaced by aria labels?

Design tip: Links are for navigation. Buttons are for everything else. Mixing these up can destroy UX.

WordPress friends - I’m trying to find an article or list of women founders in WP and coming up short. A few “women to follow” who are a broad mix of roles, but not owners/founders/co/founders of plugins or plugin companies specifically. Does it exist and I’m missing it?

@michelleames It was previously explained to me that they do a blind selection for speakers. The selectors only get to see the title, and a description of the talk. For instance, I applied to speak at Phoenix and was denied because my topic didn't match their needs.

So far only 25% of the speakers announced for #WCEU are women (by name/photo), and only three appear to be non-white. Hoping to see some more inclusion in the next few rounds of announcements.

@carolinapoena This was a feature I suggested in ACF’s user survey! That is a great idea for a plugin! With a way to globally disable e.g. bg color options from all blocks at once would be cool too.

Is there a plugin that lets no-code user enable and disable theme.json features? Preferably with the settings inside the Site Editor, not as a separate settings page in the admin. For example, enable and disable block cap.

@MarisaBrantley This is kind of dumb but I immediately get up and have a coffee then browse Twitter and LinkedIn. Both are curated to only have work-related stuff for me. And seeing what people post inspires and gets me pumped to start my own work. It's a mental trick to get me into work mode :)

Whenever I try to pick up an old Gutenberg feature request or issue that no one is working on, it doesn't take me long to realise *why* no one has worked on it 😅 But I never learn. I keep trying.

@jeffr0 @michelleames We tried to do an "unconference" room at WC Denver one year where you could on the day of pick a time slot and give a talk (like speaker open mic). It didn't really work. Most people just didn't go to that room and few signed up to speak.

#WCUS bringing in professional speakers who are not involved in the #WordPress community is interesting, but are we suddenly going to pay speakers? What is going to motivate people who don't care about the community to travel and speak for free? 🤔 us.wordcamp.org/2023/wordcamp-…

@heyamberhinds @DotheWoo I mean we have a ton of those in WordPress. BUT we do tend to live inside a little WordPress bubble. I'd love to see more insights from people not working in WordPress. There's always things we can improve!

@noopkat In a training meeting when I was at Oracle, I had to ask "What are 'TLA's and 'FLA's?" and was told, a little bit sheepishly: _Three Letter Acronyms_ and _Four Letter Acronyms_ 😂

Welp, today marks the day that my layoff from @GoDaddy is final. All of my $GDDY RSUs that were granted as part of the @Pagely acquisition have officially disappeared. No accelerated vesting. I can’t wait to watch this dumpster fire burn to the ground.
