Today, Mayor Johnson summoned the memory of the Holocaust when discussing reparations for blacks in Chicago. The mayor was attempting to be clever, but he was attempting to draw a parallel between the “dismantlement” of schools, public housing, and mental health clinics and the Holocaust. No comparison can ever be drawn between to the mass murder of European Jews and school closures, Mr. Mayor. None. And it’s an absolute disgrace to appeal to genocide to state a case for reparations.
