What's on the menu today? Elephants eat hundreds of pounds of plant material daily, feeding most of the day & night, & drink gallons of water. Inefficient digestion makes their abundant dung nutrient-rich, & a food source for animals such as the dung beetle. 📷 @janewynyard

Apart from snoozing under trees, did you know that elephants also like to sleep on banks of soft dirt? Our Head of Field Operations, David Daballen, made this fun discovery on a dusty road through Samburu National Reserve. Check it out in this brief film by @janewynyard

Cool shots by @janewynyard of one of our study elephants having a dust bath in Samburu National Reserve. Dust baths help elephants keep cool and this elephant is lucky to have enormous ears that not only help her stay cool but also distribute the dust all over her body.

Scientists have long claimed that ‘drunk wild elephants' are a myth because their body size is too large for them to consume enough fermented fruit to become intoxicated. However a new study has thrown cold water on this notion. Read more: nyti.ms/3bQKAXZ #drunkelephants

Our friends at Reteti have just sent us this photo of Lomunyak (Lucky) - the young calf that was rescued recently. Reteti says he’s doing well, his wounds are patched up, he’s drinking milk from his bottle and following the other elephants around. Thanks for your well wishes!

WATCH how members of the Royals family investigate the skull of Shaka - a 23 year old bull who died of natural causes in the reserve almost 2 years ago. Elephants are known to mourn their dead but little had been unknown about these interactions until now. Footage: @janewynyard
