The state of Texas will not observe the Cesar Chavez Day holiday. I am directing all Texas state agency heads to comply. In the upcoming legislative session, I will work with Texas lawmakers to remove Cesar Chavez Day from state law altogether.
Reports of the horrific and widely acknowledged sexual assault allegations against Cesar Chavez rightfully dismantle the myth of this progressive hero and undermine the narrative that elevated Chavez as a figure worthy of official state celebration.

@leahmcelrath I’ve seen this before on the UT campus — 50 years ago when the issue was Vietnam. Those brick planters full of azaleas that line the campus boundary on Guadalupe were put there to make containing protesters easier. Stay safe kids!

One morning you slide the opening of your sock over your toes, shinnying it up your foot, around your heel and up over your ankle…your thoughts are of your beautiful children and loving spouse you will likely be saying “I’ll see you soon. I love you!” to in a few hours, knowing you’ll they’ll probably never see you again, alive, as a free man.
But…you slide on the other sock, get dressed….waving goodbye to your family…eventually boarding the plane in Germany that will deliver you to the man who will immediately have you jailed, and ultimately…murdered.
You do it because of a promise. A promise you made to yourself. A promise that you would fight for the common man in the street; people who just wanted to experience life with more freedom. A life with less fear.
Alexei Navalny will live on in the hearts and minds of people all around the world. Always.
