By "worked out", he means "I invented ethernet and co-founded 3Com".
So yeah it worked out. :)

Title of my 1968 MIT bachelor thesis in EE was “A Neuron Model and Some of Its Information Processing Capabilities.” 1968. My advisor, Marvin Minsky, accepted the thesis, but I could tell he didn’t like it much. So I went farther down the 9th floor and got a job with JCR Licklider helping to build the Arpanet/Ethernet/Internet. Worked out.

@janvdp Rider is really great. Much nicer than VSCode.
Forms to Avalonia isn’t a great experience though, it’s a full Ui rewrite. We’ve found users doing it though 🤷♂️
English

@MikeCodesDotNET Will start with Rider and making it build - as is. I have a feeling it will be a lot of working, whichever platform I end up choosing. It's quite stock at the moment, but it's only after starting a rewrite you remember how much stock there was...
Does Avalonia compile to native?
English

@MikeCodesDotNET Tried MAUI in VSCode... Installing Rider as we speak...
English

@MikeCodesDotNET I like VSCode for most dev stuff, recently found the Vim plugin... From what I hear no one is offering a great migration experience... I still have to make a first test app in VSCode MAUI to see what I'm up against for doing any real stuff...
English

@MichielSioen @MikeCodesDotNET Me neither, until it saved me a lot of time building the @seeme_ai apps... At the moment no real outlook on what a possible migration path could look like...
English

@janvdp @MikeCodesDotNET Not really, never jumped on the forms bandwagon.
English

@MichielSioen @MikeCodesDotNET Any takes on MAUI, Uno, Avalonia… coming from stock Forms and hoping to migrate with minimal effort. Or is longevity a better metric?
English

@janvdp @MikeCodesDotNET Ui has changed a lot over the past year. Definitely try it because imo a lot of added value vs vscode.
English

@MikeCodesDotNET How's the migration path from Forms? With JetBrains I never liked the Java UI. Maybe give it another try?
English

@janvdp JetBrains + Avalonia.
If not Avalonia, at least JetBrains.
English

@Depechie @NijsPieter I have iOS/Android apps (2) that need to keep working, preferably minimal effort :)
English

@k_sasha @UnoPlatform Is there an automated/straightforward migration from a quite stock Xamarin.Forms app (iOS/Android). Might be some custom written ML services and libraries though :D
English

@NijsPieter Thanks! I'll give it a try, was never really fond of the "java-ish appearance". Is VSCode + MAUI even an option to explore? :D
English

@janvdp I’ve been using Rider on my Mac for some months now and really happy with the experience so far

Could not help myself to fix things :)
