I remember Utami having matches that nonwrestling fans were reviewing on YT. Broke the 5⭐️ scale. Had an impactful storyline when Stardom needed it. She left and it all vanished besides that Io match. For an owner who kept calling her fat to the public. What a waste of time.

@davemeltzerWON No, he called you on disparaging people trying to learn to wrestle. You were an ass.

Wonder why I have gotten more than two dozen texts from TV wrestlers, executives, and journalists supporting my tweets today? Killing the biz? Why did they put me in the Waterloo HoF? All the damage I did by bringing Bruce and Tony back into wrestling? Helping Flair get his second biggest wrestling payday of his career? Helping change the way people view the great Jeff Jarrett? Supporting the original ALL IN that led to the creation of AEW? Name a name for us. You ain’t gotta name “more than one.”

I didn’t imagine this would blow up the way it did today. I appreciate Dave’s decades and decades of work serving fans like me with news, information, and opinions. I just wish he would realize the weight his voice carries in the space and be more measured with his criticism that could hurt young folks opportunities. Dave was my invited guest at Starrcast, watched ALL IN in my box, and we had breakfast together in Japan before Wrestle Kingdom. I enjoy his company. We have been friendly for 10 years. I do believe he comes from a good place and is never intentionally dishonest. I know Bruce and Eric disagree with me on that. Has he gotten some things wrong over the years? Sure, we all have. But his intent, imo, has always been good. His blind spot is not recognizing that his opinion gets repeated and shared as fact to a large portion of the community. It’s a big responsibility. I shared these thoughts privately with Dave and then publicly over the last 24 hours. But my intent is not to hurt Dave in any way. I just want him to reconsider his approach. Love to have a discussion publicly, privately, whatever. There is no “debate” to speak of imo. We like the same type of wrestling; we just approach our critiques differently. He’s been doing it his way for 40 years. It’s not likely to change.

Dave, “reading is your friend.” You said I don’t like to hurt anyone’s feelings. You were trying to compliment a young man’s match and couldn’t do that without drawing a negative comparison. I’m suggesting you could have said how impressive he was, especially for a first match, keep an eye on him, etc. and left it alone. But you just can’t do that. You always have to say “this guy” is better than “that guy.” Based on what Dave? Your opinion. What did the agent of the NXT matches ask them to do? Did they do what they were asked? You don’t know. Instead of saying, “I didn’t enjoy this match” or “this style isn’t for me,” you just objectively say someone sucks or isn’t very good without any knowledge of what they were tasked with doing in the first place. NXT and GCW present wrestling very differently so to compare the two is truly apples and oranges. For the record, we typically enjoy the same type of performances. The difference is that I don’t go to a seafood joint and complain about their steaks.

No. How can you not see this? When you do this, you annoy, anger, and upset a segment of fans who support NXT. And you know what they turn around and do? Take it out on the person you complimented bedside they dislike you or what you said. Is that fair to the person you complimented? Usually you do this to adults and I either leave it alone or message you privately about it. But this time you did it to a 14 year old kid. Now there will be a corner of the internet that will always hold what YOU said against HIM. I respect your work and contributions to the industry more than most. But be better Dave. Stop tearing down the young men and women trying to learn their craft and get better in front of a global television audience. And for goodness sake, learn to compliment a 14 year old young man without making things harder for him.

Show me where anybody I do a podcast with did this. You can’t. Yes, Eric has been critical of the decisions made by a 40 something year old billionaire. But that’s not what you are doing here. Burying young talent trying to make their bosses happy at their job is a you thing. The way you, as a journalist, have talked about guys like Austin Theory is shameful. The way you compliment guys like Kyle Fletcher at the expense of others only hurts Kyle in the long run. You have hurt AEW more than you ever helped it doing this same bit. You just won’t stop and continue to double down. I’m not even mad at you about it because Lord, bless your heart, you don’t mean to. You just can’t help yourself.
