@queeniechanhere I mean, what even is the point of doing it? I know someone will say that art is commercial, etc, but if you want to use this technology to make money, creating art is not the way to do it.

@queeniechanhere I work in data and info governance. I published an academic paper about gen AI before most even people knew what it was. I'm not some luddite here. Even putting aside the ethics of it, I genuinely cannot imagine finding creative satisfaction in generating art or writing.

As a programmer and a manga creator, I can confirm this statement. “AI is data, and data can only look backward. Creativity looks forward.” AI has its place as a tool in creative production, but it marginal at best. It will never be central if you’re hoping for truly interesting work. It simply can’t be central, by its nature.

Latest reads: Talgard - Tome One & Two. Really enjoyed these anthologies written by Gary Proudley, published by Gestalt, and illustrated by 30 fabulous artists.

@JFennellAuthor I... don't love it. This is what has become of the profession that pays my mortgage. My writing about space assassins and horror wizards, unfortunately, does not...

@JFennellAuthor Those tools are a scam. There's a lot of bad science in the whole gen AI space. Deciding that fundamental data science principles don't apply and codifying that as a 'law'... until it was disproven. Using the models to assess their own output. Like that.

@CitedNeed Yes, Bergen-Belsen was famous for giving its inmates a sandwich and then safe passage home.

Unhinged self-victimization from the illiberal Goidelic left - typical.

I really fear for the Brits kidnapped and taken hostage by Israel. They will be processed Bergen-Belsen-style with all valuables probably stolen never to be seen again. My credit cards disappeared along with my hearing aids, cosmetics and anything else the Israelis could get their thieving hands on. This is what @IDF looks forward to as looters and pillagers. Inside K'ziot prison they will probably go on hunger strike rather than eat food that moves with ants and maggots. They will be crammed into cells and not allowed exercise. I was there for 7 days and never once got to stretch my legs. The cell I was in had 16 other women and one toilet. There's no legal access or advice, just the British consular reinforcing what we already know - @YvetteCooperMP is bought & owned by Tel Aviv so expect no sympathy or intervention despite what Page 1 says in a British passport which is worthless. FGS write to your MPs and demand their release. Any pressure is worth it. Imagine if it was you trapped with the rapey @IDF toerags.

@JFennellAuthor I'm always surprised when I discover something like that travelled beyond our shores.

Randomly thought of the Laino and Woodley bit (ask your elder millennial Australian relatives) where a character says, in a sarcastic tone of voice, "Oh yeah, I'm being *reeeeally* sarcastic!", because he doesn't know how sarcasm works, and doesn't understand that cancels it out.

In recent days I've become aware of a Nu-Metal revival among some of the Kids These Days, so I'm wondering: Can we (Ireland) petition the Klan or whoever to make it so we're not considered white anymore? We need to get out of the way of the cringe tsunami, immediately.

@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN It has my favourite understated bit of world-building in science fiction: the patch on Sam Neill's character's shoulder is an Australian flag with an Aboriginal flag inset instead of the Union flag.

Tonight, for the first time in over thirty years since I saw it in theaters, I’m rewatching “Event Horizon.” 🚀

@JFennellAuthor Tropes be tropes I guess. I feel like I haven't really missed on on much with this one. Maybe I'll catch Witches of Eastwick instead--another one I haven't seen.

Watching "Wolf" (1994) for the first time since I was 13. I'd forgotten the bit where Jack Nicholson gets a pair of puppet-ears to demonstrate that he now has wolf-hearing, as he eavesdrops on all the office conversations simulatenously and also a jax flushing in the gents'.

@JFennellAuthor I don't think I've seen it. Am I correct in guessing that the hoodlums are an outrageous ethnic stereotype?

Also has the obligatory "middle-aged guy kills/frightens the shit out of teenage hoodlums" bit; gotta have one of those. In fairness, I kinda prefer the scenario where wannabe Travis Bickle types fantasise about being monsters instead of buying a gun.

@queeniechanhere Rarely, these days, but I've done so in the past. Sometimes for other writers... in one situation a friend was working with an artist who was not a native English speaker. I'm borderline competent and have done turned out some comics art that was was published and distributed.
