Look, I'd never, ever do it, but there are edge cases where someone who could never compete for the U.S. team competes for somewhere else where they may be eligible for citizenship. Or an athlete who might be able to compete for the U.S. competes for another country that is not OUR BIGGEST GEOPOLITICAL RIVAL. I can wrap my head around that, even if I strongly disagree with it. But this is someone born, raised and trained in America, who could have competed for America, instead choosing to take millions of $ to give honor and glory to our authoritarian rival. It's an unthinkable betrayal of our country, and the fact that so much of our media has normalized it is a sign of major decline and decadence, at least among our "elites."
