short vol ETN puts have been great trades for several weeks. will begin to exit these just before the election. once a winner is known the board probably goes back to regularly scheduled contango, providing the usual headwind again for VXX, UVXY

the other things about vols is that when September settles on the 18th October-November is going to be inverted the entire time (election). so there won't be any built in headwind for the ETNs
