we just launched two things: o1, the smartest model in the world. smarter, faster, and more features (eg multimodality) than o1-preview. live in chatgpt now, coming to api soon. chatgpt pro. $200/month. unlimited usage and even-smarter mode for using o1. more benefits to come!

Fascinating chart re: how OpenAI sees the future. Seen this way, it does look like we are getting close to level #2, which is just the AGI layer: a model that can hit a baseline IQ of 100. Next task would be to make this AI-human (humAIn?) useful for society - it takes years of skill-learning for us to get there; AI will get there faster, but require a lot of help ("data, compute"). Next is to build an army of Einsteins for every field - this will require perhaps an asymptote of specialized data & compute and maybe even a new algorithmic approach. And finally, make this army co-operate and run industries to serve whatever form of economy the world would be - perhaps some shape of neo-robo-capitalism? h/t @business / @rachelmetz.

These watermarks are similar to images on a photo but are hidden and more challenging to remove. I imagine, like DRM, watermarks will get better and better, and this will create a cottage industry of tools to find and strip these marks from content.bit.ly/45UC1aJ

How do we prevent deepfakes in a world of AI images and content? One answer is to use watermarks at the time of creation to make identifying content created using various AI tools easier.

This week’s issue is an expired domain that made its way onto packs of Paw Patrol snacks from grocery chain Lidl. Let’s all do ourselves a favor and double-check our domain names before an expired credit card has your company wondering who owns your name.tcrn.ch/3PssC5a

Don’t let your domain name registration lapse! Looks ya’ll, Maryland recently faced the pains of allowing a domain name to lapse, and suddenly many Marylanders found themselves with license plates representing a great online gaming website. bit.ly/45Feqvg

Parents of the future may need to warn kids to wear a professional avatar to a job interview. Roblox launched a career platform allowing you to learn about opps and interview all in VR, could this become the future for career seekers in a remote world? buff.ly/3KMlVrA

Zoom, Teams, and the corporate remote dream was always wrong. What we need is something that embraces fun, the water cooler, and helps create genuine connections rather than simply sharing a deck in a box. Remote is possible, but let's agree that the future is not a Zoom call.

My theory the wrong companies tried to create the future, and we got back bland work environments that sacrificed interesting, fun, and whimsical for productivity. The places that feel natural, like Discord, hanging out playing Xbox or PS5 games, or using Apple's SharePlay.

Should video conferencing still suck as badly as it does? Like all of you, Mindgrub and I leaped headfirst into the remote world filled with Zoom, Teams, Google Meets, and WebEx calls, and we somehow endured while imagining that these tools could become the future of work.

My crappy all-in-one printer comes with fax, but where would I find a phone line to plug into the darn thing! If you face the same printer and fax schedule, let's all applaud The Verge for calming our collective anxiety and helping send that darn fax. buff.ly/3YNyJEd

Once a year, I need to print a document, and every third year I need to send a fax. Somehow those are the rules, and here in our highly technical world full of artificial intelligence, robots, drones, and the Internet, some companies still require you to fax them paperwork.

Did you tune into Marvel's Secret Invaders for its AI-generated intro? Disney established an AI task force to cut costs by deepening use of AI. I assume Secret Invaders is the start of using tools more deeply. How do you think Disney can use AI? buff.ly/44YjfiU

I'm new to EV life, but I've had crapy luck with others outside of Tesla's network. This seems like the type of commitment that should have come years ago, but later is better than nothing, right? Even if later is later than the latest of late. buff.ly/3rUrmOE

A New Zealand chain fused AI and a recipe generator to help customers come up with quick meal ideas from ingredients they might have lying around the house, only to discover the tool would do its best to turn lemons into lemonade, even if said lemons were poison.

Yum! Ant poison jelly sandwiches, just like Mom used to make. We all know firsthand what can happen when we let the Internet decide, look at Boaty McBoatface.
