I don't think it's about ego. It's certainly not about the money. So why did I write a book? In May 2023, I started writing. I didn't know what to expect. I assumed it would take a lot of time, attention, and effort. I had no idea. Time is the *utlimate* luxury these days: • I have a family with two small kids • I write a weekly newsletter to 27,000+ people • I have a *very* full time at Amazon Web Services I already get up at 4:00 am every day to get it all done. How was I going to write a book? - The desire to try was strong. I love teaching people and am comfortable being uncomfortable. So I gave it a shot. Once I started, I made time at night, during weekends, and on flights. Things started to work. I got into a flow. I wrote code for a few hours every night. I wrote copy for a few hours every morning. I did copy editing for a few hours every weekend. The result? After 16 months, hundreds of hours, and thousands of lines of code, the book is out and is the # 1 new release in two categories on Amazon. - So why did I write a book? It's not an ego thing. It's not a money thing. When people ask me what I do for a living, I don't even mention it. I'm proud of the accomplishment, but not overwhelmingly so. So... why did I write it? It's something no one can ever take away from me. It's part of me. Part of my identity. I'm part of a select group with the expertise and courage to put their ideas into the world. To build something new that didn't exist before. To help others that want to learn what they know. I'm a published author. ~~~ A big shout to some mentors, both silent and not-so-silent. @dickiebush and @Nicolascole77 are incredible content creators and digital business innovators. Even small bits of validation from them along the way helped me push through. One of the best creators in the game @thejustinwelsh has been a silent mentor for years. His innovation in content creation, newsletter writing, and passive marketing was a big influence on my writing. Cheers gents.

@altcap in your last pod you and the Gurley discussed Apple not being in the LLM training game. They might not be in the model game, but it looks like they're a sleeper in the hardware game. The new Mac Studio will fit the Deepseek-R1 671b which weighs in at 404GB.

Congrats to India for beating Pakistan in cricket just now. It's a historic rivalry, one of the biggest in any sport ever. I don't usually watch cricket, but I'm glad I caught this epic clash of rivals... while I'm in India 🤯

@AravSrinivas Commoditizing open source tech works when there are established business models that sit on top of it. It serves to undercut competitors. Interesting dynamic in commoditizing inference.

@AravSrinivas I tried this by uploading a screenshot of my portfolio from my phone. Had to grok Perplexity twice to get it to look up the executive orders. I’ve been in finance for 20+ years and have so many ideas around this.

A really cool example of Perplexity Deep Research: go through your portfolio, pull up information from the web about recent executive orders, and tell you which companies in your portfolio are impacted with a risk assessment. Something you would be paying a financial advisor 0.x% management fees of your portfolio is now free.
