At some point during Pagelever, I decided to move to a nicotine and polyphasic sleep schedule. I was worse as a human being. I forgot to call the person I was dating for an entire month. In my mind, it had been like a missed weekend. I apologized profusely, but we still cut it off because "well, if I accidentally went a whole month with talking to her, then I guess thats the sign". It was the sign, but it wasnt about her. It wasnt until we sold and I moved out of SV to NYC for me to realize how bad it had gotten because I was no longer a founder. Even after I left that company, I thought I'd need maybe 2 or 3 weeks to step away to decompress (I was still going very hard), but I needed an entire year. Did another 5 year sprint. Took another year off with the first kid. Now there's two little dudes and they're the ultimate in time optimization lessons. And I'm so much better with time utilization (minus my AI psychosis). I cannot imagine 9 years at the speed you were going at for so long. Sift was everywhere. There's no prize, but there's a ton of respect for doing the hard work AND for admitting that it might not have been the right optimization.

This Wednesday I'll share some secrets for guaranteed startup success. For example: * attach your self-worth to your company’s performance * seek praise and validation from others * constantly criticize everything, especially yourself lu.ma/6thd783r

This week’s most important lesson: We need more love, compassion, curiosity, and grace - for ourselves and each other, no matter how much we disagree. Less Other-ing and demonizing. Less fixation on winning and being right. Country over party. Country over candidate. United we stand, Divided we fall. 🇺🇸

re founder mode: I don’t believe that the nuance and complexity of business, leadership and management can be captured with soundbite-sized platitudes. If building a great business was as simple as applying Founder Mode 100%, more founders would be more successful. A lot of what PG writes speaks to me. There were moments in my journey where I should’ve leaned in more authoritatively with excruciating detail. And, there were also moments where I should have set aside my nitpicky control freak behavior and get out of people’s way. The juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. It all depends on the specific situation and people involved. Each is a snowflake. Sometimes you need to micromanage. Sometimes you should delegate and empower. There is no simple rule. Just like life.

thanks shaun. i appreciate civil engagement. 1. what do you believe are the facts of jan 6? (ideally with sources) 2. how do you interpret those facts as a positive or negative reflection of trump’s character? i’m fully aware that all media outlet have bias, some more so than others.

New habit I’m trying to adopt: When a genuine and positive observation pops into my brain about a stranger, I try to let them know. Examples: • Barista with tasteful tattoos • Waiter with infectious positivity • Rock climber with impressive technique It takes only a few seconds to bring a smile and sometimes leads to a nice conversation.
