@jaspervdj Hakyll was so useful that you had to create something useless? (This is a joke, it’s nothing but a joke, there is only a joke in this tweet)

@tritlo @HaskellOrg Bikeshedding apart is there not a pure hakyll way of doing this? And handling an asset depending on a query parameter? Should be quite easy instead of doing a JS hack, no? cc: @jaspervdj 👀

I believe I fix most of the annoying bugs in Haskell websockets library except for the "not enough bytes" that I still don't have a reliable way to reproduce. If someone does, let me know and I'll fix it!

have been playing with Scheme a bit. people always make fun of the parentheses and I think that's a bit sad because the caadar/caadddr/... stuff is way funnier

@reibitto @SusanPotter I agree that eg. for `a = Char` it sometimes make sense if you want an optional (but non-empty when specified) string. The semantics are the same but the connotation is different…

Added "proper" support for speaker notes to patat. Pretty happy with how simple the idea is! No need to practice slides anymore, just scribble down some comments and call it a day 😎

@graninas The latter sucks, and if there’s ad-hominem attacks those should be moderated more heavily, but I don’t feel like this group has the majority. These attacks unfortunately happen everywhere on the internet, so it feels wrong to demonize the Haskell community in this way…

@graninas I dislike the word opponent here—I think we’re all the on the same side, which is strongly-typed FP. Many of the people who disagree with you have brought up valid arguments in a respectful way, and other people have been way less respectful in expressing their opinion.

Writing books for financial gain? Absolutely not! It's a pure dedication and sacrifice of your life. You can't expect to earn a reasonable amount of money from a book unless it becomes a bestseller: 50,000 copies which is a significant achievement. However, within the Haskell community, it's challenging for a book to become a bestseller due to the relatively small number of people involved. The amount of time and effort required for writing a book can't be paid any close to what you would typically earn in an hourly rate at a regular job. You could potentially earn 100 times more for the same amount of time and effort. For example, you could make around $360,000 in three years at a regular job compared to potentially earning $5,000 to $10,000 in royalties after spending the same three years writing a book. The only way to earn a decent income from your book in a small community like Haskell is through self-publishing. However, even then, there is no guarantee that people will buy it. Rare technical books are not primarily about making money for the author. They are mostly about building reputation and serving the community. And it's sad when the community refuses to understand this simple truth and makes obstacles instead of supporting the authors.
Tom Gosling@tomgosling

I think it’s problematic to conflate writing books for financial gain with serving the community per se. I have no horse in this race, I just think teaching people how to use a tool doesn’t mean you’re entitled to be a spokesperson by default and maybe your expectations are too high. What you’re describing seems to be a problem with nearly all open source projects, there’s always annoying politics and power struggles getting in the way of progress - I don’t think jumping ship to another language is going to change that.
