@MykhailoRohoza The British are the undisputed masters of delivering this sort of refined sarcasm with charm and wit without being nasty or rude. That is why Trump is so disliked by the British.

🇺🇸🇬🇧At a dinner in the White House, Charles III told Donald Trump: “I’ve noticed your changes to the East Wing. I must say, we Brits also, in our own modest way, tried to renovate the White House back in 1814.” I didn’t know that myself, but looked it up — in 1814, the British burned the White House. The king also gave Trump a bell from a decommissioned British submarine named “Trump”: “Ring it if you ever need us.” And this one: “You recently remarked, Mr. President, that if it weren’t for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Allow me to say that if it weren’t for us, you would be speaking French.” But the king didn’t just joke — he also reminded Trump about support for Ukraine and the role of NATO. Overall, Charles devoted his entire speech to subtly trolling Trump — in a very British way, so refined that it went right over the heads of MAGA supporters. They even applauded him for it! A British king and an American jester — that says it all. I love British humor!

@nxt888 If India actually had 25% of the world's GDP, it would have easily defeated the British East India Company. The idea that Europe was poor but was able to project power in far-flung places magically is an overcorrection against Eurocentrism. Europe had surplus economic capacity.

Kyle I want to ask you a specific question and I want a specific answer. India had approximately 25% of global GDP when the East India Company arrived. It had 4% when the British left. Where did the other 21% go. Not rhetorically. Literally. Where did it go? Because it didn't evaporate. Wealth doesn't evaporate. It moves. Tell me where it moved and we can have a conversation about whether that movement is relevant to how Britain funded its industrialization.
Kyle Choi 崔凯尔@KCDN19

@nxt888 Love you account but this: "First: centuries of colonial extraction that transferred enormous wealth from the periphery to the center, building the capital base for Western industrialization." - is mythical not history. Europe was already far ahead, that how they won.

🚨WHAT? Trump is now preparing Americans to accept gas prices DOUBLING. With oil already around $100 a barrel, Trump says even if it hits $200, it would STILL “be worth it.” Meanwhile, families are struggling to SURVIVE while Trump just shrugs. #TrumpsGasFailure

Q: The average price of gas in the country right now is $4.50. Do you have a thought on how long Americans are supposed to accept this? Do you think it will affect Republicans' majorities in the midterms? Rubio: I'm not going to speculate on the politics of it. I don't know if you've seen what the gas prices are like in other parts of the world that are suffering. So we're very fortunate

I am very pleased to announce that, on my recommendation, His Majesty has approved the appointment of the Honourable Louise Arbour as the 31st Governor General of Canada. Across more than five decades, she gave voice to those whose dignity was denied, held institutions to account, and changed lives through her service. As Canada’s next Governor General, Louise Arbour will represent the best of Canada to our citizens and to the world — a Canada clear-eyed about the challenges we face, and steadfast in the values we uphold.

Congrats to Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson on winning the Pulitzer for covering the Trump regime, especially Elon Musk’s DOGE. In January, Natanson’s home was raided in an outrageous move by Kash Patel’s FBI, and agents seized her phone, two computers, and even a Garmin watch.

@FT The time for placating or humouring or containing Trump is over. No other decision can be taken. @MarkJCarney said it first. The rest of the world is following suit. @Keir_Starmer, @EmmanuelMacron etc al have made the same decision. BTW India has also taken this decision.
