I Deadass thought we had a generational duo going. Thought they’d play like 13 years together and 3 rings. It’s a tough game but ultimately one of the better duos in NBA history and maybe the best of their era. Won a whole lotta game and a championship. Great run

I know this isn’t the return everyone wanted for Jaylen, but I don’t think Boston got worse. For this season, PG gives you a lot of the same value while fitting what this team already is a little cleaner. Better spacing, quicker decisions, more connective passing, less on-ball overlap with Tatum, and he can still create when you need him to. I think that skillset scales better around your offensive engine than Jaylen’s did. The reality is Jaylen’s trade value had already gone down the drain. Whether people want to admit it or not, once it became obvious the relationship wasn’t getting repaired and another 2-year/$140M extension was looming, you lost leverage. Every day you got closer to that extension date, his value was only going to keep dropping because teams knew Boston either had to pay him again or move him. The alternative was bringing him back into the exact same environment, knowing you weren’t extending him and knowing his value was only getting worse. I’d much rather cash out now than watch that situation drag on another year. Then you add in two Philadelphia firsts, which are legitimate assets. Whether Brad keeps them or flips them in another deal, that’s flexibility you didn’t have before. Would I have liked a younger centerpiece? Of course, this wasn’t an ideal pivot, but a fine one at that. But I don’t think this is some franchise altering loss. Boston stays at essentially the same level today, gets a cleaner fit around Tatum, avoids another massive long-term commitment, and picks up two firsts that can help facilitate the next move, you also get an expiring contract with Paul George in 2027. This move was never going to put us over the hump, but now we don’t lose a competitive step, and have more ammo to possibly buy, frankly a lot of questions will be answered by what Brad decides to do next.

Can I just say, and no one will believe me or care: I LOVED when Danny drafted Jaylen. He squeezed every bit out of the player he could be. C’s don’t win in 2024 without him. It’s been a wild and bumpy ride, and even if I support it ending, I’m grateful for what he gave.

The Celtics Tax is about to be on full display. It’s wild how the narrative around Jaylen Brown is going to shift now that he’s not wearing green. Make no mistake, he’s earned all the praise he’s about to get he just should’ve been getting it all along. The media and the league have always treated Boston differently, and the sudden change in energy is going to prove it.

To be honest, we need to give Tatum a lot more credit for his maturity. Since the day he and his teammate were drafted, he's constantly been pitted against him. He took most of the hate and blame after the Celtics lost the 2022 Finals, watched the media and analysts repeatedly try to split them up, missed out on the 2024 Finals MVP, tore his Achilles the following season, and has still remained quiet through all of it. Despite everything, there are still weirdos blaming him for "rushing back" and even bringing up the team blowing a 3–1 lead in the playoffs, even though he didn't even play in the game they were eliminated. On top of that, he had to endure people like Brandon Jennings saying his trainer should be fired, despite his trainer having no involvement with the Celtics at all. Through all of it, Tatum has stayed composed, never publicly complained, and has simply gone with the flow. This is not hate toward Jaylen Brown. I respect him, and I'm going to miss him dearly. Both players have received unfair criticism over the years, especially during the offseason. However, it's how you handle it and respond to it that truly matters. Tatum has had to be mature for the entirety of his career. He was drafted when he was only 18 or 19 years old, yet we have ringless idiots like Carmelo Anthony saying he needs to be more selfless. I don't even blame JB for getting mad and responding to SAS and other people. He has never spoken badly about anyone unprovoked. Tatum is another Celtics player who has endured being the media's and the NBA's punching bag, partly because he chooses not to address the foolishness. He's never going to win that MVP unless he starts speaking up for himself and pushing back against these narratives. The talent has always been there, but being the bigger person has, in a way, destroyed his basketball reputation. That's unfair because it has nothing to do with winning or individual accomplishments. Unfortunately, the NBA has become more like a soap opera, expect drama, more drama, and even more never ending drama and less sports talk.
