A tragic incident is unfolding in Blue Estate, an informal settlement in Shauri Moyo, Kamukunji, where I have learned that a building collapsed during a forced demolition, trapping an unknown number of young people inside. So far, two bodies have been recovered, and three people have been rescued alive from the collapsed building. My condolences go to the family of the deceased, and my thoughts are with the families of those still trapped under the rubble. Together, we pray and hold onto hope for the success of the rescue teams working to bring everyone to safety. I strongly condemn the arbitrary demolitions along the riparian land on the riverbanks of Kamukunji, as well as the callous and reckless manner in which today’s operation in Blue Estate was handled, with utter disregard for the safety and lives of those affected. I urge the authorities to immediately stop all further demolitions and to launch a thorough investigation into the causes of this heartbreaking tragedy.

With less than a week remaining until the end of the holy month of Ramadan, we distributed Iftar food parcels to 550 needy households from across Kamukunji today at Eastleigh High School. The food packets included maize flour, wheat flour, rice, sugar, tea leaves, salt, cooking oil, and dates. We also delivered 250 kgs of dates to seven mosques in Majengo, Shauri Moyo, Kiambiu, Madiwa, and Airbase. This is a wonderful way to build community spirit and bring people together. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!

We have just successfully concluded an inspiring week-long NG-CDF Kamukunji Bursary Registration drive, where thousands of determined parents stepped forward to secure brighter futures for their children. The exercise was conducted in all the five wards in an open and transparent manner. The passion for education burns brightly, and harnessing its life-changing power, we pledge to leave no deserving young mind behind—empowering the next generation to dream big and soar high!

@MPyusufhassan This is the kind of transformative leadership Kamukunji needs. Turning words into action, and hope into opportunity, by equipping our youth with real skills for real jobs. A powerful step toward self-reliance, growth, and a future driven by empowered young people. 💪🔥

A Significant Milestone for the Youth of Kamukunji On Friday, we launched a quick-impact training programme designed to equip unemployed youth in Kamukunji with the essential skills, resources, and tools they need to succeed. A total of 1,649 young people have now begun a three- to six-month skills training programme across 16 different trades, including plumbing, electrical work, catering, hairdressing and beauty, driving, and many more. They will receive training at the YMCA National Training Institute in Shauri Moyo, the Kamukunji Vocational and Technical College in Airbase, and Rocky Driving School. Our aim is to drive real, tangible change: creating jobs, igniting entrepreneurship, and empowering these youth to make positive contributions to their community and the local economy. The Kamukunji Youth Empowerment Programme is rooted in a simple yet powerful idea—that our young people are our greatest asset, and they deserve the skills and opportunities to thrive.

@MPyusufhassan This is what peoplecentered leadership looks like. @MPyusufhassan listens to traders, hears them out, and gives firm, practical directives. Gikomba is not just a market; it’s an economy. Respect to Ruto for decisive action and unmatched commitment to our locals.

VISIT TO STATE HOUSE YIELDS BIG WIN FOR GIKOMBA TRADERS. Yesterday, I led a delegation of about 250 traders from Gikomba Market in Pumwani to meet President William Ruto at State House. The group included chairpersons from all market sectors, as well as representatives from the Mitumba Consortium Association of Kenya—the leading second-hand clothing traders in Kenya and East Africa led Teresa Wairimu. They presented their concerns and the main challenges they are facing, and the President responded positively with clear directives: —He directed the Ministry of Lands and NLC to issue a title deed for the market within 90 days to protect it from land grabbers and speculators. —He also committed to rebuild the open-air market with paved cabro surfaces, proper roofing, better drainage, and lighting, which should create more opportunities for the thousands of people who work there daily. —He instructed that the new seven-story Gikomba Quarry Road market be completed in 60 days and allow traders to move in thereafter. —-The President also announced that the government will fully equip the new Pumwani Level 3 Hospital in Majengo, and he directed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to hire the needed doctors, nurses, and other health staff so the facility can open its doors soon. —He also asked the governor to accelerate the opening of the new Gikomba fire station. Gikomba Market is the largest open-air market in East Africa, with over 100,000 traders operating there each day. It attracts around 200,000 shoppers and service providers daily, supporting the livelihoods of more than two million Kenyans and generating about KSh 12.6 billion in government revenue annually. My sincere thanks to the President for meeting with the Gikomba traders and addressing the their concerns promptly.
