⚠️ 3:40 PM UPDATE ⚠️ The Jax Jazz Fest is currently in a Code Blue due to cloud-to-ground lightning detected within a 10-mile radius of the event site. Gates will be held until at least 4:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to seek shelter in their vehicles.

☁️🚨 #JaxJazzFest is rain or shine! Ponchos and umbrellas 48” or smaller are permitted. Weather conditions are being monitored closely. Festival operations will only pause if lightning is detected within 10 miles of the event site or if there is an imminent safety threat.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for 29-year-old Echinajah Shamoni Powell. Echinajah was last seen on Friday morning around 8:00 a.m. on Palm Breeze Road on the Southside. We’re told she is diagnosed with Autism and due to the circumstances involved, we are concerned about her well-being and safety. Echinajah is 5’5” and 120 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair. Echinajah was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants and a red bonnet. If you see Echinajah or know where she is, call us at 904.630.0500. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for 88-year-old Lola Mae Smith.  Ms. Smith was last seen leaving her home on Thursday morning around 7:00 a.m. on West 4th Street. We’re told she is diagnosed with dementia. Due to the circumstances involved, we are concerned about her well-being and safety.  Ms. Smith is 5’6” and 135 pounds. ⚠️ Smoky Conditions Possible in Duval County ⚠️ Smoke from the South Canal Fire, located southwest of Duval County, is expected to continue drifting into Northeast Florida through the evening due to strong winds. While light rain may temporarily improve conditions, residents may continue to notice the smell of smoke until a cold front moves through overnight. Emergency management officials are actively monitoring conditions. Safety reminders: ✅ Limit outdoor activity if you are sensitive to smoke ✅ Keep windows and doors closed if smoke becomes heavy ✅ Monitor air quality at AirNow.gov Those with asthma or respiratory conditions, pregnant women, young children, and adults over 65 should take extra precautions and minimize outdoor activity. There are no active wildfires within Duval County at this time. Updates will be provided as needed. See flames or a heavy, defined column of smoke? Call 911 immediately. 🚩 RED FLAG WARNING 🚩 May 7, 2026 Critical fire weather conditions are expected across Duval County today with a Red Flag Warning in effect from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Low humidity, gusty winds, and ongoing drought conditions mean fires can spread rapidly. Please keep vehicles off dry grass, properly discard cigarettes, and clear dead vegetation around your home. Even a small spark can quickly become a dangerous wildfire. This isn’t the time to take chances. With dry conditions and a burn ban in place, even one spark can put lives and homes at risk. Mayor Donna Deegan, Fire Chief Percy Golden II, and Emergency Preparedness Chief Andre Ayoun are asking everyone to do their part. Most wildfires are preventable.
