When your loved one goes missing, we deploy our best tools to find them quickly and safely. On Tuesday, April 21, our K9 duo Ruger and Officer Chris Havens responded to a reported missing teenage with Autism. K9 Ruger got a sent from the teen’s sock and led Officer Havens and responding patrol officers toward the intersection of Beach Boulevard Ryar Road when they heard the teenager yelling for help in the parking lot of a business. If your loved one goes missing, every second counts in our search. Call 911 and we’ll get to work. Because he was able to lead officers close to the missing teen, K9 Ruger earned himself his favorite toy and plenty of ‘Good boy!’s!

No two calls for service are ever alike. Take this call, for example, from Monday, April 13, when a man was walking his dog (that happened to be a retired narcotics canine) at Hanna Park. The two stumbled upon a bale of marijuana washed ashore after high tide and called our officers. Our officers quickly responded, collected the ‘square grouper’, and delivered it to our property and evidence vault. Just another day for our officers!

Officer Antonio Richardson joined Fox News this morning for a live interview to discuss the connection he made with a young man on top of the Dames Point Bridge in April. The young man was ready to take his own life. Thankfully, he took Officer Richardson’s hand and stepped back. Officer Richardson, who is also a pastor, and the young man remain in contact to this day and the impactful interaction has gotten international attention. We hope it will inspire others to get help and take mental health seriously. If you’re struggling with thoughts of suicide, please reach out to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. It is a free resource available to you 24/7. This is what we are here for. This is why we do what we do. We care about you. The world is a better place with you in it.

64-year-old Beverly Sasberry is facing 11 felony charges after she intentionally ran over baby ducklings with her vehicle. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, a couple watched as a red Honda Accord purposely drive over a group of baby ducklings on Tempest Street on the Westside, turning her vehicle around multiple times to hit them. The couple confronted the woman a few days later, and she told them she intentionally killed the ducks because she was upset they made a mess in her yard. The couple reported the incident to our District 4 Patrol officers, sharing surveillance video of the woman driving over the ducklings. The officers identified Sasberry as the owner of the red car. On Thursday, April 30, the officers pulled Sasberry over. After interviewing her, they arrested her for 11 counts of Cruelty to Animals, a felony. We do not take animal cruelty cases lightly. If you see someone committing a crime against an animal, please give us a call (904.630.0500).

118 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone? Not on our watch. The ‘Super Speeder’ law is in full effect. Drive 100mph or 50mph over the limit? Expect a hefty ticket and even a stay in the Duval County jail. Yep, that fast is considered criminal. We get it, you have somewhere you want to be. Speeding might get you there faster, but it could also put you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road in danger. We’ve lost 65 people in traffic fatalities this year, 17 more than this time last year. We are not messing around when it comes to safety on our roads. Speed, and be prepared to face the consequences. Drive safe, Duval.

WANTED WEDNESDAY: Do you recognize these beauty school dropouts? On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, our two beauty school dropouts visited a beauty store on Dunn Avenue in the Highlands area. Around 5 p.m., our first suspect walked into the store alone and trimmed several hair clippers. He didn’t get the cut he wanted, because two hours later, he returned with his friend. The pair stole more trimmers, totaling hundreds of dollars lost. Call it a full-on hair heist. Thankfully, the beauty store’s surveillance cameras were able to get some clear photos of our suspects. Time to cut out the chance any future hairy situations. If you recognize these beauty school dropouts, don’t brush it off. Call us at 904.630.0500. Want to stay anonymous? Contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS. Your tip could turn into cash to buy your own trimmers. Don’t recognize them? You can still help by combing through our Unsolved Crimes page. You never know who you might recognize. Head to unsolvedcrimes.jaxsheriff.org.

Whatever you’re going through, you can get through it. Those are the words Officer Antonio Richardson shared with a young man on Sunday, April 12. The young man was on top of the Dames Point Bridge, ready to take his own life. Our District 2 and 6 Patrol officers responded to the bridge and spoke directly to the young man, sharing directly from their hearts. In that moment, our officers weren’t the police. They were just people showing how much they care for another person. Thankfully, the young man decided to take Officer Richardson’s hand and step off the bridge. We are here for you. We care about you. We do what we do every day because we care about you. If you’re struggling with thoughts of suicide, pleas reach out to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Yes, you can text 911. We’re always here when you need us. Even when you can’t talk on the phone. If you’re in an emergency, and you can’t call us, text us. Texts to 9-1-1 take the same priority as 9-1-1 calls. Our dispatchers can still see your location, provide instant response, and get our officers to you quickly. So far this year, we’ve answered more than 660 texts for help.

When will people learn? Our patrol officers, district investigative officers, and crime analysts work around the clock to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in our community. Thanks to their hard work, plus some of your tips, we were able to hold these two men accountable for their actions. Kenneth Suggs- Arrested April 21, 2026 Arrested for: Petit Theft On April 19, 2026, Suggs visited a department store on Atlantic Boulevard and stuffed his pants with alcoholic beverages before he left without paying. Maxwell Clark- Arrested April 20, 2026 Arrested for: Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property Between April 3 and April 6, 2026, Clark burglarized a home under construction on the Northwest side of Jacksonville, stealing about $900 in appliances. On April 18, 2026, Clark visited another home under construction and took more appliances, worth more about $1,350. Detectives learned Clark was selling the stolen appliances. If you’re going to commit a crime, we’ll see your photos here soon. Don’t forget to visit our Unsolved Crimes page. You never know who you might recognize.

Here’s something special to start your Sunday. Six Duval County students just earned Tommie Tyson Scholarships! The Tommie Tyson Scholarship, named after the late Officer Tommie Tyson, is awarded to safety patrol students who may not have been able to afford our annual Washington D.C. summer trip. They worked hard all school year and submitted essays about what the trip would mean to them. Now, these winners are preparing for an exciting adventure alongside our officers and fellow safety patrol members exploring our nation’s capital. Congratulations to all the recipients!

We want to give a big congratulations to the ‘Guns’ team for winning this year’s Guns N’ Hoses Boxing Match! Four of our officers went head-to-head (or should we say fist to fist) against other first responders. Not only do they get serious bragging rights, they get the satisfaction of raising money for local organizations. It was a nailbiter night, but our ‘Guns’ came out on top, winning 6 of the 11 matchups and delivering the trophy directly to Sheriff T.K. Waters. Guns N’ Hoses returns next year; we’ll see you there!

On Friday, April 24, 2026, officers responded to an apartment complex on Collins Road near Retreat Boulevard for a person shot. When they arrived, they found a woman inside an apartment who’d been shot at least once. She later died from her injuries at the hospital. Our Homicide Unit detectives immediately launched their investigation. During the course of the investigation, Isaiah Micaleb Robinson, who was detained at the scene, was quickly developed as the suspect in the case. After interviewing Robinson and reviewing all of the available evidence, Robinson was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Our hearts go out to the woman’s family and loved ones at this time.

Don’t be trashy, Jacksonville. We want you to remember illegal dumping and littering has some serious consequences, including jail time. Just ask 37-year-old Kayla Stone. In October 2025, we received a complaint that a woman, later identified as Stone, was illegally dumping tires from a U-Haul onto the right of way along West Monroe Street. Stone had dumped 40 tires from the truck before she saw the witness watching her; she then got back into the truck and drove off, with more tires bouncing out of the cargo area and onto the road. Our detectives quickly tracked the U-Haul down and found Stone with almost 100 more tires she planned to dump. We arrested her for Illegal Dumping from a Motor Vehicle over 500 Pounds, which is a felony. The City of Jacksonville Solid Waste Division took the remaining tires for proper disposal. We take littering very seriously. If you still don’t believe us, just ask the man Sheriff Waters pulled over for littering last month.

We’re grateful to play a part in the Special Olympics athletes’ journey with today’s Torch Run. It’s our privilege every year to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Our agency raises money throughout the spring, and it all comes together on this special day, when we run alongside the Special Olympic athletes for a mile run. Our Chief of Support Services Paul Restivo carried the “Flame of Hope” this year, and after the run, the torch was passed to the new law enforcement agency to participate. We raised more than $3,000, and all that money goes directly to the Special Olympic athletes to participate in the Special Olympic Games this summer.

A countywide burn ban is now in place across Duval County.   Effective immediately, the @CityofJax and @THEJFRD are prohibiting all open burning, including bonfires, due to extreme drought conditions and wildfire risk.   Under this burn ban, ALL outdoor open flame burning is prohibited. This means: •NO yard debris burning •NO campfires or bonfires •NO firepit use •NO unattended open flames   This does NOT prohibit outdoor cooking in enclosed grills or smokers.   Anyone found to be in violation of the burn ban will be issued a citation by JFRD or the City's Environmental Quality Division. A violation of the open burn ban carries a $250 fine for residential occupants and $8,000 for commercial occupants.   This ban will remain in effect until further notice.   Even the smallest flame could put you, your family's, and our city’s safety at risk.

Officer-Involved-Shooting: April 22, 2026 Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sheriff T.K. Waters and Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey shared details about an officer-involved-shooting. This happened on Julington Creek Road, near Sand Ridge Drive.  Around 5:30 this morning, JSO officers were called to Susie Street, just off Old Middleburg Road North, where they found a man and woman who’d been shot. The woman died from her injuries. A person of interest was developed. Detectives, intending to arrest the person of interest on an outstanding theft warrant, tracked him to Julington Creek Road around 1:00 p.m., where they tried to block his vehicle. The suspect pointed a gun at officers and fired at least once. Five officers returned fire, killing the suspect.  The suspect’s name is not being released yet, pending next of kin notification.    The officers who fired shots are Sgt. Eleftheriadis, Det. Prescott, Det. Whitmar,  Det. Walling-Millanes, and K9 Officer Mulhearn. No officers were injured.    This is the 7th officer-involved-shooting this year for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The State Attorney’s Office is on scene, completing its investigation. Once its investigation is complete, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own investigation.

WANTED WEDNESDAY: Do you recognize this dirt bike deviant? Our victim made a choice to sell his dirt bike on Facebook Marketplace, and here comes our dirt bike deviant. He offered to buy the bike, and the two met up at a house on Nolan Street off Lenox Avenue in Lackawanna on the Westside. The day of the buy arrives, and our dirt bike deviant arrives with an envelope of ‘cash’ in hand. He gives it to the victim and asks to test drive the bike. But, instead of ‘test driving’ the bike, he rides off. The victim checks the envelope, and there is no money. Even worse, the Facebook marketplace account was already taken down when the victim tried to contact our dirt bike deviant. Now, we need your help identifying him so we can trade his dirt bike ride for a ride in the back of one of our cars. If you recognize this dirt bike deviant, call us at 904.630.0500. Want to stay anonymous? Contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS. Your tip could turn into a payday (enough to buy your own dirt bike…legally). Don’t recognize him? You can still help by visiting our Unsolved Crimes page. You never know who you might recognize.

A man whose identity was unknown for nearly four decades now has his name back. This is an update to a story we shared with you in July 2024. In January 1990, a couple hiking near Little Talbot Island discovered the skeletal remains of a man near the Duval and Nassau County line. No ID was found. Despite investigative efforts, the case went cold and stayed that way for 36 years. All the detectives had was a forensic sketch of what he may have looked like. In 2024, our agency and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement submitted forensic evidence to Othram Labs in Texas. Scientists were able to build a DNA profile and through genetic genealogy testing, detectives located potential relatives. One of whom helped identify the man as her first cousin, Joseph Paul Connors, known as “Buddy.” Our Cold Case Unit detectives recently met with Mr. Connors’ cousins and shared information. Mr. Connors was born in May 1937, served in the United States Navy, and worked for the United States Postal Service. No foul play is suspected in his death. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement facilitated the case being researched by Othram Labs, through grant funds from the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Missing and Unidentified Human Remains Program.
