Make the games 40 minutes. 8 x 82 / 48 =13.667 That’s the equivalent number of games you would reduce the schedule by. Without breaking arena leases. Works for college. Works for international. Works for the WNBA. AND. If you looking at tv and streaming ratings, the less the actual playing time for a televised game, the bigger the ratings. Ie, the less time fans have to focus on a game, the more they enjoy watching it on tv

Bad night for the “every team is tanking” crowd in the league tonight.
Utah battled with Denver, who barely won in the fourth (despite Jazz pulling Filipowski/Sensabaugh).
Memphis battled hard against Houston.
Washington almost beat Golden State.
Brooklyn is giving LA Lakers everything they can handle through three quarters.
Indiana took LA Clippers to the final possession.
There is NO tanking problem.

All you really have to do is this:
-UN-flatten the odds
-Any team 15+ games back of the worst play-in team (either conf) has half of their lottery combinations distributed among the other lotto teams.
-20+ games back and that team cannot pick #1 overall
