@senselessvoid i actually just watched it, i liked this trailer more. seems to be leaning into a more loving concept rather than a quite on the nose sin sin sin

@senselessvoid i wonder if they’re going to address that framing, wine was genuinely hurt by the idea lal might think this made her prettier. there’s… interesting stuff in that

@XylenDegaise i have seen the focus on the sex but at the same time i have to say compared to other thai gls i’ve been critical of, there seems to be a lot more ppl who want to engage on what this show almost does well *and* how it misses the mark (and the issues therein), like yourself!

@jayjayramble well said, it’s refreshing to see a grounded take on Shades when everyone else is focused on the physicality (kiss/sex scenes) of romance in GLs (in general)

there could be an interesting convo about the effects of repressing these girls’ expression, like how it’s led nalin to kind of never leaving high school emotionally. but i don’t think the show has the time for exploring that.
Lay 🦕@XylenDegaise

she struggles with understanding the difference between platonic and romantic love bc of her familial problems but let’s not act like Nalin isn’t showing signs of grooming behavior by allowing her teenage students into her home. Nalin lacks serious boundaries unfortunately

@XylenDegaise absolutely!! i said in another tweet how some of the dynamics were enough to unpack on their own without the sensationalized stuff. for instance the class imbalance between amysophie didn’t need the hyper dramatic depiction of abuse and mental health issues of sophie’s mother.

@jayjayramble they have too much going on and some of the plotlines could have been saved for a separate drama where they give the time and attention required to tackle sensitive topics like grooming and the power imbalance/predatory age gaps of teacher-student relationships

@XylenDegaise yes i could have also said “no interest in exploring it” bc you’re totally right, they just touch on these topics but then undermine them with that romanticization

@jayjayramble which is unfortunate bc it’s so frustrating to watch serious topics be neglected by the showrunners and at times be romanticized
