i spent 3 weeks in Thailand 🇹🇭
here's my honest take:
People
the first thing i noticed was the way they greet you. thai people are genuinely kind, they smile, they're respectful, they want to make you feel welcome. the service everywhere was great.
Food
i did not eat at a single place i didn't like. not one. thai food was good but what actually surprised me was everything else, italian, chinese, japanese, all incredible. the food scene here is a 10/10.
Prices
you can eat for $10 for two people or spend $40+ if you want. the range is wide but even the cheap options are very good. i also bought my new macbook there and it was noticeably cheaper.
Heat & Humidity
honestly i expected worse. you kind of get used to it. the humidity did make my hair frizzy but that's manageable. i also went during rainy season which affected some plans. random but my skin was at its best the entire trip. maybe the humidity agreed with me ;)
Traffic
the traffic is crazy but i used the train a lot and it's pretty cheaper than taking Grabs in traffic. the confusing part is figuring out the train at first but once you get it, it's easy. grab bikes are the move if you want faster and cheaper.
Bangkok vs Khao Lak
i spent one week in Khao Lak, it's basically a village. no Grab, very quiet, very small. when i went back to Bangkok i genuinely missed it. that said, Khao Lak is exactly what you want if you're trying to fully switch off and just relax.
Nightlife
went off-season so it was more lowkey than expected. still fun, just not as packed as i imagine it gets at peak.
Would i go back
100%, i'd recommend it to anyone, whether you want a proper vacation or you work remotely, the cost of living is so much lower, the timezone works in your favor, and there's so much to do and places to visit.
overall it was an incredible experience and i can't wait to go back 🥹
