7,000 TRAINED BUT UNEMPLOYED J&K DENTAL SURGEONS ARE CURSING THEIR FATE. According to them: ● J&K Government/ Govt-recognised Detal Colleges in J&K and outside have admitted and trained thousands of youths in the last 17 years but not a single vacancy has been filled up since 2008. Govt has not provided a job to a single BDS youth. ● In the last 17 years, over 1,000 BDS youths have become disqualified for Government service by crossing the upper age limit for recruitment. Every year, 300 BDS degree holders become ineligible for Government service.  ● Currently as many as 7,000 BDS degree holders are unemployment in J&K. ● ON the other hand, hundreds of dental surgeons have retired in the government hospital and many hospitals' dental sections are either fully defunct or are being run by nursing orderlies, medical assistants or dental assistants. ● J&K Government's Department of Health & Medical Education put up multiple  creation proposals from time to time with the Departments of Finance and Planning but all such proposals were rejected. Currently, a fresh creation proposal file of 543 posts (280 from Kashmir and 263 from Jammu) under dispatch no: HD/Plan/80/ 2021-22 dated 02/07/2025 is pending in the Department of Planning. ● The incumbent National Conference Government has a party manifesto commitment of 2024 to fill up the vacancies, to create fresh posts in reorganisation of departments and to provide jobs to the unemployed BDS youths. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself doled out duch promises through his 'X' handle, interviews and statements. However, none of such commitments has been honoured in the last 14 months. Not a single vacancy of Dental Surgeons has been notified for recruitment in the J&K PSC's recent notification for recruitment of doctors.
