Finally watched Project Hail Mary last night and I’m gonna sound like I hate fun and didn’t like it (I did!!!) but LordMiller’s humor feels SO insecure to a degree that hurts what they’re doing visually/tonally. Sandra Hüller’s just straight up in a different movie.

I watched TROY again and I think the problem is Brad Pitt is the definitive Achilles. Anything below his feral physical perfection comes off like weak ass cosplay. Every man is Elliot Page compared to this guy.

Candle Cove is the weakest season and at face value is even kinda stupid but then you’ll notice just how fake every store sign in the lifeless town is, or wince at how intense the murders are, or focus on how good Fiona Shaw is, and end up mourning Channel Zero all over again.

Don’t find it my guy at his best or most interesting, too (appropriately) mired in yakuzasploitation at its ugliest, but it is a MEAN piece of work. Vehicular manslaughter shootouts, chicken coup combat, Ginza’s nighttime streets drenched in blood, echoing with pistol cracks.

Violent Streets (1974) is grodiest Gosha and a sticky nightclub floor of a sleazapoolza, but it is some un-beeeee-lievably slick and sick violence. Every rancid criminal in this is one shattered bottle slash or shotgun blast away from erupting into crimson fountains.
