“It shall be called Opening Day and will be a huge celebration of spring, rebirth and baseball culminating in one single game played at night on a streaming network.” “Why not play many baseball games during the day?” “Nobody knows.”

@joshjaco98 @bschaeffer12 Why in the world would we not send Saggese or Church down and make one of them “force their hand”? Silly.

I don’t really buy the 40-man stuff as the driving factor. I think it has more to with consistent opportunities for Saggese/Church, and Fermin serving as the “26th man” who they don’t have to prioritize playing time to. If Velazquez made the roster, one of Saggese or Church seemed destined for Memphis. I would’ve had Velazquez on the roster too and let one of those two get every day at bats in Memphis for the reasons you stated. Might as well capitalize on what we saw and the fact he brings power they don’t have. Messaging wise from Chaim/Oli, I don’t think it would be wise for them to acknowledge that Fermin’s spot is more filler than not. Not saying they don’t like him, but I’d be surprised if he plays much with Saggese/Church/Urias all fighting for time. I could definitely be wrong on that though!

There were obviously complicating factors involved in the decision, but seeing what they saw from Velazquez and not immediately trying that out in the middle of your opening day lineup is a bit surprising. I get not wanting to expose anyone to waivers, but have to be careful about prioritizing the cart before the horse on 40-man stuff, as the last regime did with some frequency.

JJ Wetherholt is on the opening day roster, Bloom says. Saggese, Fermín, Church as well. Nelson Velázquez will be assigned to Memphis.

Common theme from both Bloom and Marmol on Velázquez: constructing the roster this way allows them to make minimal 40-man moves. Both referenced being able to “keep all our guys” more than once. Hope is Velázquez pushes the issue.

@LO_Cardinals Absolutely absurd. We know what Fermin and Saggese are. Of all the seasons to see what a potential power bat could be it’s this season. Just silly.

“If he keeps doing it he’ll force our hand.” Lol. That’s what he did all spring! What in the world have Saggese and Fermin done to make this team? I don’t know how in the world Velazquez doesn’t make this team. We have zero power. My goodness 🤦🏻‍♂️

A 2-star QB scrambling for potentially the national-championship-winning touchdown on 4th down in his hometown against his hometown team after winning the Heisman for the most losing program of all time while his mother with MS screams for joy from her seat is possibly the limit of how good sports can get

Okay guys… hear me out. Yamamoto 2 billion dollars contract for the #STLCards. He makes zero dollars for the 12 years he plays and then 100 million a year for the following 20.
