I saw the Shape of Water at TIFF in 2017 in the Elgin theatre, literally the same place they shot all the theatre scenes in the movie.

Exposition is THE hardest part of Screenwriting. Sometimes you have to rip the bandaid off and just front load the movie with 5 minutes straight of it.

While working on AVATAR 2, James Cameron was struggling with the script's opening exposition. He picked up a WGA magazine for tips, only to find the article praising his own Terminator script as the perfect example. A reminder that even masters revisit their roots.

If I had a nickel for every time a James Cameron MEGA Blockbuster had a slightly soft opening right before Christmas only to have some of the best legs for any movie ever, I'd have 4 nickels, which is actually starting to add up.
