I have deeply loved the Christian artists who performed at CHARLIE KIRK'S MEMORIAL SERVICE, and their music has dramatically impacted my spiritual journey for the better. However, I no longer think I will be able to listen to them again. It will undoubtedly be a long time before I can trust their faith or connection to the Spirit of Christ. I can't support the things that were said from the same platform they shared today. Worship and hate speech do not belong together. Perhaps these artists will issue a statement over the next few days saying they disagree with the rhetoric and shockingly anti-Christ things that were said before/after their music, but I do not expect it. We have lost evangelicalism to the unholy empire. It is now a State Church, in a deviant state. In my view, by performing there, these artists give full allegiance to the content, speakers, and speeches that accompanied them. And I cannot and will not support that.

I cannot say strongly enough how blasphemous, anti-Christ, and anti-Christian this is.

Ironically, during seminary, I struggled deeply with reading the Bible. I was taught to approach Scripture as an academic assignment, and switching between my "academic" and "devotional" mindsets was no easy task. This tension persisted for years after graduation, making it difficult to engage Scripture in a worshipful way. I often told myself, "I can’t just read Scripture; I need to study it. I need to go deeper. I need to dedicate hours each day to study." This mindset, however, became a barrier, deterring me from even opening my Bible because I felt I couldn’t settle for "just reading it." My love for Scripture was rekindled when I discovered daily liturgy and prayer books. From Gibson's Be Thou My Vision to the Book of Common Prayer, I've benefited immensely from these books that help to reframe reading Scripture as worship. I no longer worry if I am "going deep enough," and now feel the Scriptures convict, comfort, teach, and guide me. (Don't get me wrong, I love deep study and do it often. I just don't have time to do it every day.) If you, too, feel this tension, I encourage you to explore one of the liturgy or prayer books pictured.
