Many thanks to our speakers for a successful BITSS Annual Meeting! One of our main take-aways was the tension between using LLMs in research and reproducibility. Reproducibility remains an important issue in research, and this is a topic we think is important to pay attention to.
Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA)@CEGA_UC

Last week, researchers and policymakers shared research to advance transparency, reproducibility, rigor, and ethics in social science research at the 2026 BITSS Annual Meeting, hosted by CEGA’s @UCBITSS + @IBSI_at_Haas. View slides from the presenters: cega.berkeley.edu/event/bitss-an…

Importantly, these effects are not just a reflection of money or schooling. In fact, income and education often increase profiles’ labor-market status but hurt perceived social warmth. High-class accents, by contrast, raise both workplace and interpersonal evaluations.

New Working Paper Alert 📔 Do accents shape social and economic opportunity? With @miweintraub83 and @NGarbirasDiaz, we tested this in Colombia through an online experiment with 6,000 adults. 🧵

@XArrizabaloM Quería consultar si es posible adquirir el libro "Capitalismo y economía mundial" en versión digital (formato PDF). Lamentablemente, el libro impreso no llega a las librerías de Lima, Perú, donde resido.

My first solo-authored publication is now out in @Journal_CompPol (FirstView) 🎉 Why would cash-transfer beneficiaries reduce support for these programs when poverty increases? I show that perceived ineffectiveness pushes recipients toward longer-term social investment policies.

5/ Overall, redistributive attitudes are shaped not only by class position, but also by the composition of social networks and by structural inequality. Network segregation matters most in contexts of low to moderate inequality.

I’m on the Job Market! 🚨 Ever wondered how does uncertainty about sources of inequality affects redistribution? In my jmp, Excuses and Redistribution, I explore how people use excuses to distort beliefs about merit and luck, justifying self-serving behavior. 🧵(1/7)
