Digging deep for a midweek W!
The Thunder baseball team jumps out to an early lead over Dubuque and withstands the Spartans' late rally attempt to earn its eighth win of the season.
James Scott (pictured left) was 2-3 at the plate tonight with a team-high three runs and one RBI. The program's single-season record-holder in hit-by-pitches tallied his 20th HBP of the year on Tuesday, second-most in Division III.
Jack Gill, Charlie Scofield, and Sean Dmytrowicz all matched Scott on two hits, with Scofield driving in the game-winning run in the seventh inning that was scored by Gill. Nathan Hedlund led all players with three RBIs in the victory.
Carson Grier got his first collegiate start on the mound this evening and tossed a game-high six strikeouts while allowing just one run through four innings. Billy Kessler earned his second win of the year, and JD Van Hook racked up his fourth save, as each pitcher sat down two Spartans and did not concede a run in their relief appearances.
Wheaton will conclude a five-game home stand on Friday with a 5 PM conference matchup against Augustana.
