Teachers don’t lose their spark because they stop caring. They lose it because they care too much. It's a system that keeps asking for more while giving less. And when that spark goes out, the world becomes a little darker, colder, and lonelier. ~ Dr. Brad Johnson

@SketchesbyBoze When my daughters were little, I would read to them every night before bed. It helped them wind down and was always a sweet moment with them snuggled up next to me. It is one of my favorite memories of that period in life.

You need to read to your kids. They need to know the joys of reading. People think this isn't a huge deal but I'm serious: you don't want to live in a world where no one reads. There's a reason all the great dystopian novels involve a world without books.
Nick Kapur@nick_kapur

Gen Z parents don't read to their kids anymore because "it's so boring." Just 41% of parents now read to their kids, down from 64% in 2012. Not only is this creating a future generation of illiterates, but will eventually collapse the market for books and bookstores.

If you love Texas public schools, imperfect as they may be, take a mental snapshot of 2025. As our Governor cited, there are many, many excellent public schools across Texas producing great results despite underpaid professionals and the State's lack of funding. And, as many critics have cited, Texas also has a number of struggling schools. Yet, to paint schools as struggling is myopic at the very least and, in most cases, intentionally misleading and inaccurate. Even within "struggling schools," these facts remain: There are remarkable instances of learning taking place every single day. Teachers, aides, parents, and administrators work hard to ensure children are safe, loved, and cared for as they are pushed to achieve their potential. Our Governor has been in office since 2015. Since then, he has been both directly and indirectly responsible for TEA, the managing agency tasked with ensuring that all Texas schools meet the needs of every student. The Texas constitution states, "Sec. 1. SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE OF SYSTEM OF PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS. A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools. So, after the "school choice" or vouchers bill is passed, remember what the State of public schools in Texas looked like in 2025...because 10 years from now, we will be in a decidedly worse situation. With the influx of vouchers, public school districts will have fewer resources, more decrepit facilities, underpaid professionals, larger class sizes, and less qualified personnel...the memory of what public schools did for our communities will be greatly diminished in the name of "competition." The reality is that public schools have always competed for student enrollment, as Texas parents have always had school choice. The fact is, instead of building up our public schools to ensure Texas has the premier public school system in the United States, we will now be subsidizing private school parents to attend schools that do not play by the same standardized set of rules public schools have been playing by since the dawn of the accountability movement. Private schools will now have the choice, not parents. Do not be fooled. If your child doesn't meet the ideological standards of a private school, they will not be accepted. If your child has special needs, they may not be accepted. If your child lives in a rural community and cannot travel to the nearest private school, they will not be accepted. The bottom line is that this was always about providing subsidies to private school parents, incentivizing private schools to grow in an attempt to replace public schooling, and further segregating our public school system. Take a mental snapshot now...in 2025. The legacies of those who vote in favor of vouchers will be forever tied to this moment and what will become of our proud public school system. #txlege

BREAKING: The 7,000 IRS agents fired by Trump and DOGE appear to have mainly been employees who worked in the Large Business and International (LB&I) division, which audits companies with more than $10 million in assets and high-income individuals. Weird, right? It’s almost as if they are trying to help Billionaires and cut the revenue of the US, meaning that the middle class will suffer.

Fact 1 - It's the #txlege job to "make suitable provision" for public schools Fact 2 - The LBB noted that public schools have less buying power than in 2019 Fact 3 - $5+ billion for public schools was withheld last session No #txlege filed bills fully address the 2019-2025 gap

Rep. Massie, the lone Republican NO, says the Republican budget will add $20 trillion to the debt over 10 years. They don’t care about the debt and never did. This was all a dance to get their trillions in tax cuts for the rich. (Again)

McGovern: Democrats offered an amendment to protect Medicaid. Every Republican voted no.  Democrats offered an amendment to extend tax cuts for people making under $400,000 while ensuring that corporations and billionaires pay their fair share. Every Republican voted no.  Democrats offered an amendment preventing tax giveaways for people earning over $1 million a year. Every Republican voted no.  We asked them to vote against tax breaks for people earning over $100 million per year. Every Republican voted no.  We offered an amendment preventing tax cuts for people with a net worth of over, get this $1 billion. Every Republican voted no.  They betrayed their constituents. They voted to steal from the American people in order to protect tax breaks for billionaires

Musk gets all the attm, but what's unfolding rn is in line with the little-explored career-long vision of OMB director Russell Vought, an anti-govt radical who spent his life trying to unravel the post-New Deal state. He sees the Trump movement he infiltrated as his last chance🧵
