This was just merged into Gutenberg trunk, and it’s a much bigger deal than it looks 👇 WordPress is getting a native UI to create custom post types. No code. No plugins. Just: Settings → Post Types → Add That might sound small… it’s not. Custom post types go from “developer feature” → “everyday user feature” Which means: • Better structured content from day one • Easier onboarding • Less plugin dependency • A cleaner foundation for AI to understand your site And this is just the start. Post types → taxonomies → …you can probably guess what comes next You can see where this is heading… WordPress is becoming a powerful content modelling system 👀

@jdevalk @Cloudflare nice one! great feedback - curious if you saw this "content site" mode and if it addresses what you called out trying to balance making sure the right things are covered for both content sites and apps/APIs where auth discovery is needed

@retlehs @Cloudflare hmm i disagree with some of the check there. The `Vary` header I agree with. "Rejects unsupported types with 406" - per RFC 9110, a server whose representations can't satisfy the Accept header MAY return 406 Not Acceptable.

Open Source's big problem. Last night I went to a Y Combinator party in San Francisco and met an entrepreneur who is making a top Open Source AI model. He told me it is very hard to make money in open source. Yeah, it is cool being popular, he told me, but figuring out how to make a business out of it is proving to be very difficult. The Chinese are pounding the price into the ground with their open source models. Which makes it tough. In the old world of Open Source you could make money with them by consulting, service, etc, like RedHat did. But in this new world, he told me, it's much harder to make a good business out of it. Is anyone making a good business out of open source? What would your advice be to the businesses that are trying to support Open Source?

Open source can enable agency in the AI era - but only if we actively support and structure it. Otherwise, control will concentrate elsewhere. Really very good article, recommended reading from @jdevalk

Open source won on cost for 30 years. AI is making that argument irrelevant. The now even more important case is agency: software you can inspect, fork, host, and migrate without permission from a vendor, or government. 1/2

@kiravohosting @Bovelett Yeah logical result of AI coding. Which is also why articles like this are needed to prevent that in the future.

@jdevalk @Bovelett Almost all Astro vibe-coded sites that we've seen lately have this issue, even templates sold as premium.

When @Bovelett messaged me: "there's a weird jump bug when I read your blog in iOS reader mode." I tracked it down to Astro's ClientRouter conflicting with iOS Safari's DOM reformatting. Fix: stop doing SPA navigation on a site that doesn't need it. The browser handles it natively now. joost.blog/replacing-astr…

Yeah I know that’s a big one but outside of the scope of this prototype, which was UI focused. I think Pods already does this. Someone needs to architect that separately from the UI, just prove that it can be done fully supporting (without breaking) current posts/postmeta, similar to how Woo had to do when they moved orders to custom tables.

@DerekAshauer @briancoords I'll keep banging on this drum but if we do this let's PLEASE figure out how we store it too and not stick to wp_posts and wp_postmeta like we've done.

@briancoords And if not on by default, a simple feature flag via WPCLI (and admin UI setting) - just anything so AI can spin up things easier.
