Since coming back from the Olympic break, Matvei Michkov has 5 power play points -- most on the team in that time frame. So what does Rick Tocchet do? Demotes him to the second power play unit. I'm happy for Martone getting this opportunity, I really am, but why must Michkov be the one to be demoted when he's arguably been your best power play guy as of late?
Jackie Spiegel@jackiespiegel93

One more note - Porter Martone is on the #Flyers first power play - Matvei Michkov is on the second

@FlyersNation I'm not saying to rush the guys that will eventually be the guys that you count on. But there are youngish guys that have been here awhile and they can't be much worse.

@FlyersNation When you keep playing guys that are supposed to be leading but give you nothing but bad penalties and not much else this is what you get. Meanwhile, the kids who will be key if they ever win, are blocked by meh players. This is the same as they've always done.

Daniel Briere and Keith Jones have both alluded in the past few days that fans are impatient and want to win “next year”…emphasizing that these things don’t happen overnight. This couldn’t be further from the truth...most fans on here are just rightfully questioning where the 1C and 1D are coming from. We know these things don’t happen overnight. We’d be more than happy to suffer long-term because the franchise hasn’t made the 2nd round with fans in attendance for 14 years. But they’re doing another retool and never rebuilt. Our only top five pick (Chuck’s pick) is in Anaheim. The organization thought they would make the playoffs this year (still a 5.4% chance). Now we’re most likely drafting in the mushy middle again. The cap space cleared means nothing if there’s no free agents available to move the needle. Briere can still pull off trades to make this happen, but we all know “trades are hard” and there’s quite a few teams with better assets to pick from. They jumped the gun on a few extensions and didn’t draft high enough. Now we’re stuck in this boat again. I’m sure Martone and Michkov will be electric #Flyers long-term, but winger is the least valuable position and it’s our only surplus. Could the Flyers make the playoffs a couple of times in the next few years? Maybe, I guess. Is there a perennial contender forming here? Extremely unlikely…they weren’t bad enough.

Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones on if he is happy with the state of the rebuild for the Flyers: “I do, I think we all would love to rush it and make it happen quicker, but that’s not the way it is and the environment we’re in today. One of the things that we’re really happy about, is we are alleviating a lot of the cap pressure that we have had in the past. A lot of the deals that we had to work out of including the Kevin Hayes deal, the Ryan Ellis deal, the Cam Atkinson deal, all that money is starting to come off the books. That I’m really excited about, and that was one of the objectives Danny [Briere] and I had when we took over, was to clean up the [bad contracts]… The other part of it was to add younger talent and to accumulate draft picks, and we’re starting to put those picks into play. Allowing the players enough time to fully develop, not to rush them, but to watch them grow, and hope that our assessment of where they will end up in the future align and they’ll end up being a big parts of the franchise as we move forward. Those things I think are all in a really good place and I’m really excited about the future". (Kincade & Salciunas) 📸 - Emilee Chinn/Getty Images

@FlyersNation Guys I don't want to see anymore: 33, 55, 24, 47, 14, 91, 19, 41, 27. Combined they have 36 goals. They've gotten too high a share of the minutes. They called up Barkey and Bump and sparked the team. While the guys who are here to make them compete are slow and give little.

@975TheFanatic Flyers always slow play their kids, which in theory is the correct way to go but in practice, does not work here bc they wait too long and most never play in the league. They touted a guy like Tuomolu and eventually killed his spirit and traded him for a guythat won't see NHL

@FlyersNation Maybe if he wasn't so focused on Mich and everything he does the rest would play better. They take bad penalties all the time. Everybody in the lineup. Or maybe the media just looks for his reaction to everything Mi h does.

@EricReeseFN Just remember that Forsberg never faced the pressure of resurrecting a franchise. He also got to play with Sakic on a good to great team. Lindros only had a young Brind'Amour and Recchi.

@soil1985uga @Jimfrombaseball Thinking the same thing. Shouldn't the outfielders and middle infielders be more affected? They spent way more time on that stuff than pitchers and catchers.

@Jimfrombaseball The players who got brain cancer were mainly catchers and pitchers. It might not be the Astroturf, but it could be the soil there. The stadium was located in an industrial area. I am wondering if the ground crews who worked there also had elevated levels of Glioblastoma.

"The "Philadelphia Inquirer" found dangerous chemicals in the astroturf of the now-demolished Veterans Stadium. Six Phillies who played on that turf, Tug McGraw, Darren Daulton, John Vukovich, John Oates, Ken Brett, and David West have died of a rare and aggressive brain cancer. The six players all died in their 40's or 50's, roughly three times the rate of the average adult population. Even more alarming was their mutual diagnosis of glioblastoma. The Phillies sold pieces of turf in sealed 4 x 4" bags. The Inquirer purchased four of those on eBay. Samples analyzed by two separate labs found 16 types of dangerous chemicals in the turf. They are referred to as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down and can last in the human body for years. The US federal government estimates that 12,000 artificial turf fields containing PFAS or “forever chemicals” exist in USA. Darren 'Dutch' Daulton. And still no updates on this story!!!

When a dog is surrendered to a shelter, because they got lost, because someone moved, because the new home doesn’t allow pets, or simply because their family grew tired of them, this is what happens. They sit quietly, waiting for you to return. Not for hours. Not just for days. Sometimes for months. They don’t care about toys, treats, or even food. All they want is you. If you cannot commit to loving and protecting a dog for their entire life, please do not bring one home. Say no to abandonment. Because he never would. ❤️

@MikeSielski Assuming there is no conspiracy, and I don't believe there is one, maybe RT doesn't know how to reach special talent. He lost Petterson by pushing him to be something he isn't. Even after 100 point season under him.

@MikeSielski How did Risto get in shape when he couldn't play play until December? How does anyone get in shape when they start on IR following a late season injury from the year before? All I want is for MM to take his regular shifts through the whole game.

I understand #Flyers fans are desperate to see Michkov excel & had high hopes for him this season. But just because the team has been lousy for a long time doesn't mean Tocchet is holding MM back from being a star. The kid slowed his own timeline. It happens.
James@JamesMcGlone_IV

@MikeSielski We've watched BAD hockey over the last month. Tocchet plays other guys, who have been worse, more minutes. He also speaks about anyone else on the team with media savvy and obvious restraint. Michkov hasn't received the minutes, or the grace. Tocchet better be handling this right

@MikeSielski Was he out of shape a couple games back when he played the entire 2 minutes of the power play? He was electric on that PP they just couldn't finish. 2 games later he played 10 mins. Reason, he can't handle the minutes. Does that make sense?

Tocchet is not cutting his minutes. MM is getting plenty of shifts. His shifts are shorter than the other forwards'. He doesn't have the stamina to stay on the ice.
James@JamesMcGlone_IV

@MikeSielski So, Michkov was out of shape coming into camp, and was in doghouse. Fair enough. Now it's five months later. If Tocchet has made no progress with the guy, is still just cutting his minutes (despite play), and causing a big enough stir that the team had to call a press conference

@JHallNBCS The vets, except TK, are the real issue. Giving the team very little with no TOI accountability. I'd rather see MM on a regular shift with normal length, warts and all, at least give me something to get excited about. Culture and "the rightway" has us in the lottery again.

@JHallNBCS Nervousness comes from doubt. Maybe it comes from seeing the ice time and lack of joy MM39 plays with these days. Seems like they want him to want out. Unless they're trying to keep his RFA money down. Culture hasn't stopped the swoons every year.
