Teachers do a lot more for students than simply teaching the “lesson.”  Their impact cannot reduced to a job description.  It’s certainly not able to be captured by a social media post.  But if you work in a school… you get it.

There are some great YouTube channels for history topics, but they are often hard to find. The best channels cover a wide range of historical events and cater to different interests and learning levels. Here are our top picks: historyskills.com/favourites/you…

So many teachers are not okay, but, because they keep showing up, keep smiling and keep quiet— everyone thinks they are just fine.

We shouldn’t punish kids for being kids. If they sit in desks too long, don’t be surprised if they get fidgety or talkative. Yes, there’s a time & place for quiet learning. But we need more time & places for kids to play, move, socialize & be kids. That's how they naturally learn

A low ATAR does not mean poor performance at university. "we need to broaden access to university beyond the narrow confines of the ATAR, and allow education to play the role it should always play, as an equalising force in an unequal world." smh.com.au/national/nsw/a… #education

It’s time a “badging” approach is used in schools to replace traditional grades. "Seat time, and the way we currently measure what goes on during that seat time, doesn’t accurately show what skills students master." gse.harvard.edu/news/uk/22/08/…

Potentially unpopular opinion: if you can’t teach the whole curriculum without homework, your curriculum is the problem. Kids aren’t“quiet quitting” by expecting to only do work @ school. After 7-8 hrs of work, they should expect to protect their peace & find joy when they leave

Students are constantly feeling rushed. Before they’re able to master a skill or concept, they get assessed and are told to move on. It leads to high anxiety and a low sense of self worth. We need to worry less about “staying on pace” and care more about depth of understanding.

What makes a student essay sound more academic? One of the things a student can do is to carefully incorporate the evaluation of historical sources into their argument. Here is some helpful advice on how to do this well, with examples: historyskills.com/source-critici…
