Correction: @AldineISD has 43% emergent bilingual students. Last school year, the district ended at the year 48% emergent bilingual. Which makes these gains even MORE striking! HT @DrFavy for helping me understand that I was working from outdated district data. Can't wait to get the broader story told.
Whew, this school board member comment. I’m working on a piece on @AldineISD, a large district with the fastest-rising ELA scores in Texas. 35% of Aldine students are English Learners. Guess what playbook they are working from? Spoiler: the work has everything in common with TN and Louisiana. This story needs to be told because I am seeing waaaay too many comments suggesting that the Southern Surge can’t be replicated in states like California, due to English learner-heavy populations.
