In 2024 when we released our first ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Holes, Eastward Ho! placed two (6 & 18) on the list. At that time the current par-3 4th didn’t exist—it was created (likely recreated) during last year’s Kyle Franz renovation. I believe it’s a top 100 hole and would make the ranking today. I’m not actually a big fan of Biarritz’s, but the setting and audacity of this green is undeniable. Wow.

@feedtheball There was a beautification movement in the 1930's that saw the plantings of many trees. Having worked with Mannie's for nearly 25 years, we have worked very hard to undo the mass plantings of the past. Here is a photo from 1928.

Can’t say when this photo was taken but likely the 1930s. More proof that bad tree planting was not just the domain of RTJ and his post-War peers. It happened right away in GCA.

The epic fifth hole at Plymouth Country Club. Donald Ross routed this 385 yard par-4 over tumbling fairway contours and placed the green down in a natural bowl in the land. The blind tee shot and obstructed views from the fairway make this hole a really fun test
