I like AI. I use AI. It’s a powerful tool. What I find odd is watching people constantly ask Grok what it thinks instead of thinking for themselves at all. AI should support reasoning, challenge ideas, and expand perspective not replace judgment or become an authority people defer to. Tools don’t think for us. We still have to do that part. What I am seeing in Twitter/X comments around Grok isn’t people asking for help with an idea they have, it’s people handing over judgment. A few things are happening at once: 1. AI is being treated like an oracle, not a tool People aren’t saying, “Grok says X what do you think?” They’re saying, “Grok says X, therefore X is correct.” That’s faith, not reasoning. 2. Responsibility gets short-circuited If Grok chose it, then you didn’t. No ownership. No accountability. No thinking required. That’s very appealing in public spaces where mistakes get punished. 3. The “neutral machine” myth Many people assume AI is: •unbiased •purely logical •above emotion •free of incentives None of that is true. AI reflects training data, constraints, and the goals of the people who build and deploy it. Calm certainty just makes it easier to surrender judgment. 4. Judgment is replaced with citation Instead of thinking, people quote. “Grok says…” functions like: •“Science says…” •“The algorithm decided…” •“It’s just data…” Those phrases shut conversations down. They don’t open them. 5. This isn’t new it’s just faster People have always done this with: •religious texts •IQ tests •economic models •Wikipedia •polls AI is simply the latest authority costume. The danger isn’t the tool it’s the desire to avoid uncertainty. The irony? AI systems aren’t meant to be gods. They’re probabilistic, fallible, context-limited, and corrigible. Treating them as authorities is a misuse, not a feature. If people stop practicing judgment, they lose it.
