Oh I love this game! My turn: I want to see all 10,000 birds in the world, have a staffed yacht, and be good looking, in that order

Thinking about education today while giving state exams, how it’s like a road trip with random strangers who pop open the doors, knife the tires, while complaining the car is going nowhere and the trip sucks. Thinking about the other kids in the car who just want to go somewhere

Teachers, what's one thing you're doing now to protect yourself from burning out ten years from now?

@fairieteeth If you’re a PI pursuing questions that both groups can provide tests of ideas for, sure. Some stuff requires a lot of specialization to get there and would be x2, but other things the tools overlap. Eg, acoustic biology (frogs & birds)

is it possible to be both an ornithologist and a herpetologist.. i’ve always loved birds but there’s so much that’s unknown about herps (especially salamanders) and i think it would be sooooo interesting to study them

@candiburke Maybe a tight crop that hints at more fog and more moose?

Moose in morning. Anyone want to help me edit this? I’d like to see the moose better, but I love the fog

@TheBirdist Blackbird had it coming honestly. Just watched one today diving on a GBH flying 100 ft in the air minding its own biz. This one just drew the natural selection card.

@RyanFMandelbaum Right? Or they give a string of words for features that like 10 people in the world know, then ask so why did you pick this species? BECAUSE iNAT SAID SO! TF you asking ME for??? We are not equals here.

a fun inaturalist thing is when you upload a picture of something obscure like a worm or moss or something some random guy gets mad at you because you didn't know to photograph a very specific part of the animal required to identify them to species

I find it interesting how invertebrates have only evolved powered flight once (flighted insects have a single flying common ancestor). Meanwhile it's happened at least three times in vertebrates (pterosaurs, birds, bats).

@fairieteeth When I lived in CO, back roads were #1. Local state park was 5 min drive, nearest NF/BLM was 20-30 min. Depends on what I was in the mood for. If you live there, whatever is closest is best. If you’re visiting, many larger towns have protected areas nearby with varied topography
