Mayor Lyles has been a guiding force for Charlotte. She was a steadfast leader who worked collaboratively with local and state officials to address the city's pressing needs. I want to thank her for her service and wish her well in retirement.

Charlotte's version of Lori Lightfoot announced Thursday morning that she will resign before the end of her term. Mayor Vi Lyles announced Thursday, May 7, that she will step down on Tuesday, June 30. Lyles, who has served as Charlotte’s mayor since 2017, also said she will not seek re-election in November 2027. Lyles did not indicate which misstep or investigation prompted the decision instead cited family, but criminal investigations of county commissioners, former council members and members of congress, as well as ever increasing crime have become a blight on Charlotte under the mayor's leadership. The fact that she waited until the start of a major sporting event in our city shows you just how self centric Vi Lyles treats the office of mayor. When the focus should have been on Charlotte's green fairways and Truist Bank, Lyles decided to make it all about her. Good riddance. Charlotte's future depends on selection of a mayor perhaps the city will not make the same mistake going forward. Clearly a special election should be demanded and not just a council appointed stand-in.

Lyles stated 'Now, it is time for the next phase of my life, to spend more time with my grandchildren and for someone new to lead us forward.' instead of the more accurate 'I've wrecked this city by allowing fraud & rampant crime to run wild, ruining one of the souths most beautiful & sought after destinations.'

CLT Mayor Vi Lyles is resigning on June 30, according to a statement released by her team. Many officials have wondered out loud and privately if she was going to be able to make it through 2027 due to health reasons that have been evident for at least a year.
