Thoughts turn to Sarah Everard as I walk by the bandstand in Clapham Common. Two years on. She was just walking home.

Group defends hiring man as period dignity officer - this is a joke isn’t it? I’m sure the guy is great in another role, but this role … ask those with actual periods!! bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla…

@Dizzybugspin As someone from Dover I’m not sure the dividends are abundantly evident there … all the fumes from the lorries queued for miles to get through the new border may have got to her!

Fantastic #booklaunch this evening at @battersea_arts for the fab new novel @L1ttleBrownDog by @DrPaulaOwen one attendee wanted some of the limelight. Based on a true story in 1903 of a stray dog, 2 fearless women, a ruthless medical establishment and a fight for justice.

There’s not been much to feel proud about being English recently, but tonight I couldn’t have been prouder of the England football team. It was a hard end, but they should be so proud of what they achieved. Such a bright future ahead of them.

@aliceperryuk It blew my mind the first time I listed all the things I naturally do when I am out walking, to be alert or prepared, to a male friend, and they had never even thought of one of them. Never had to.

@jen_ben1 I hear you, I hear you. Obviously not writing as a woman, but I remember as a child being brought up with "if you're ever in trouble or scared, talk to a policeMAN". Sick to my stomach 😢

All week I have been consumed by thinking about Sarah Everard and willing her safe return. She simply took the walk I have done hundreds of times and never made it home. I can’t begin to imagine the pain her family and friends are in right now.

@caitlinmoran It’s unbearable in the winter - I live by myself and to not have freedom after 4pm is utterly isolating.

Being a woman: my "outside" day finishes at sundown. If I haven't taken the dog for a walk/jogged by then, I can't. In the winter, it often means the choice between exercise and work. Today, I had to stop work at 4 to exercise. My husband worked until 6, and is now off for a run.

We have a right to walk safely when we want to. And yet for now, I shall stay home and will always think of Sarah Everard.

I have spent the last year walking to stay sane around Clapham Common and a lot of that in darkness. Always with keys between my fingers, headphones turned down and making quick mental notes of those around me. Why in 2021 do women have to feel this way?

What happened to Sarah Everard has hit home hard for so many women because we make the calculations she did every day too. We take the longer, better-lit route, push the fear aside for the voice that says ‘don't be daft, you've every right to walk home alone at night and be safe’

Anyone between Clapham Junction and Brixton - a woman, Sarah Everard, has gone missing from somewhere between the end of my street and Brixton. It’s a walk I’ve done countless times. Check your dash cams, doorbell cameras etc. Hope she’s found safe soon.

@shauncrause It’s the same on Clapham Common, and in Battersea Park they’ve broken into the Astro turf pitches.

@jen_ben1 In my local park there is an exercise area that has been closed of some some lads have broken the fencing and have been working out on the equipment without any concern

So many groups of up to 20 playing football in Battersea Park today ... absolute tools. We’re all over it. We’re all bored. Stick with it and we’ll get back to normal quicker.
