I get that the scenario you're designing for will have an influence on your decision, and Roboto has the classic Helvetica R 'kick'. But other than that in what world does this embody a similar look / feeling? Is this some sort of AI lack of nuance thing?

I get well angry with the internet's advice on which fonts are good alternatives to others. Like, if you're looking for a web-safe / free / fallback for Helvetica Neue, surely you'd go for Helvetica, Inter, or even Arial over Roboto (Google's top suggestion)
