There's something endearing about the way brown bears shake off after a catch—like a big, wild dog enjoying a day by the river.⁠ ⁠ ~at Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska

This is Jake, a Red-Tailed Hawk taken from his nest as a chick and raised by a boy until surrendered to authorities. He wound up at the Sitka Raptor Center in 2014. He's physically perfect, but imprinted on humans so does not associate with other hawks or hunt for himself.⁠ 😔

I was shocked to find this Rufous Hummingbird outside our AirBNB in Sitka, Alaska. Their annual migration spans up to 4,000 miles from Mexico to Alaska—one of the longest migrations in the animal kingdom relative to body size.⁠

The Raptor Center in Sitka is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured birds of prey, providing a safe haven for majestic creatures like this bald eagle. ⁠They are much easier to photograph when not flying 🦅

Last morning at Brooks Camp: stunning light on one side, and all the bears on the other 😠. Shooting straight into the sun, I created one of my favourite images ever! It captures the scene exactly as I remember, and provides a unique perspective of this iconic location.

🐻 🏊 Brown bears are surprisingly strong swimmers. They can swim for hours, sometimes covering distances up to 30 kilometres (about 18 miles) in search of food or a new habitat. ⁠

Fortuna Bay was the only landing we were able to do on South Georgia this year due to avian flu. The bay provides an ideal habitat for King Penguins due to its relatively flat, open beaches which are perfect for nesting. ⁠

Gold Harbour in South Georgia is known for its massive King Penguin colony. We're talking tens of thousands of birds. And it smells. ⁠ ⁠
