A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27:
“It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young.
At 26, I thought I had time…
To fall in love.
Start a family.
Grow old.
But cancer doesn’t care about plans.
Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee.
I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live.
Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Feel the sun.
Just be.
Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love.
Laugh more.
Write a note.
Tell someone you love them.
Complain less.
Give more.
Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy.
Be present.
Put your phone down.
Show up - really show up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life.
Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to.
And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever.
Thank you for reading this.
Live your life well.
And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.”

I had a call from a scammer the other day.
Me: “Hello.”
Scammer: (Heavy Foreign Accent) “Hello. This is Tom Smith from Microsoft Support. We are seeing a lot of virus activity coming from your device.”
Me: “Oh no. My device? Are you sure?”
Scammer: “Oh yes, Madam. We have many reports.”
Me: “Oh, jeez. How can I fix it?”
Scammer: “It’s okay, Madam. We can help you right now. Are you in front of your device?”
Me: “Yes. I was just about to use it. I’m glad you called.”
Scammer: “Good, Madam. Please push the Start button.”
Me: “I think it’s already on.”
Scammer: “Okay, Madam. Now click on Control Panel.”
Me: “I don’t see that.”
Scammer: “Do you see a bunch of information above the Start button?”
Me: “Yes.”
Scammer: “That is your Control Panel.”
Me: “Wow. I didn’t realize it had a name.”
Scammer: “Yes, Madam. Now press Internet Options.”
Me: “I don’t see any Internet options. I don’t think I bought that feature. This is just a cheap one.”
Scammer: “All devices have Internet, Madam. Press the Start button again.”
Me: “Okay. Same as before.”
Scammer: “That’s fine, Madam. We will restart your device. Please turn it off.”
Me: “Um… I don’t know how. I’ve never turned it off. It kind of just stays on.”
Scammer: “There must be an off button. How do you stop it when it’s running?”
Me: “I usually press the big button.”
Scammer: “Okay, Madam. Press that button.”
Me: “Okay.”
Scammer: “Is your device off?”
Me: “No. The door popped open.”
Scammer: “Door? Is there a disc inside?”
Me: “No. There’s a burrito.” 🌯
Scammer: “Why is there a burrito in your computer?”
Me: “Computer? I thought you said this was microwave support.” 🙆🏻♂️😂
Click. ☎️🤗

“A hospital in Barcelona sits right across from the beach. So they started wheeling ICU patients to the shore. Ten minutes of sunlight and waves — and doctors say it changes everything.
Hospital del Mar in Barcelona sits directly across from the Mediterranean. For years, staff have been wheeling ICU patients to the beachfront as part of a program to "humanize" intensive care. Doctors say even 10 minutes of sunlight and waves can improve a patient's well-being and recovery.
The program gained worldwide attention during COVID-19, when patients who spent weeks sedated on ventilators were taken to the beach. One patient, after 52 days in the ICU, said: "It's one of the best days I remember." Staff monitor vital signs throughout each visit.
Dr. Judith Marín said the team had been doing therapeutic outings for two years before the pandemic. The hospital is now studying whether beach visits improve long-term recovery.”

I've been fighting for HCWs & patients with #longcovid since 2020.
I consider myself one of the lucky ones...I'm able to work. Many aren't.
We are no better prepared for the next pandemic than we were the last.
I'm ashamed I couldn't do more but have been hamstrung so far.

This Long Covid Awareness Day let’s remember the millions who've been disabled by the virus.
The people who've been forgotten
The folks hiding their diagnosis because of the stigma.
You think you don't know anyone with Long Covid?

Tonight our spire is Teal to raise awareness of Long Covid, a multi-systemic disease following a COVID infection, this includes severe, mild, or asymptomatic infections. There are currently no proven treatments or cures for Long COVID. longcovidawareness.life #LitForLongCovid

There are no treatments and gov't is not properly investing in finding the treatments we so desperately need.
That needs to change.
It's time for government to fund the research.
We've already waited too long.

Today is #LongCovidAwarenessDay
Long Covid changed my life beyond recognition. I got ill. I never recovered. Lost my job. Became housebound. I rely on others to do things for me. I lie on my bed most of the day.
