Why are big Swiss races in massive decline? 😥 Today, the WorldTour race Tour de Romandie starts and the biggest star of cycling Tadej Pogačar is there. Everything looks perfect right? Well, it isn’t. The organizers of the Romandie couldn’t find whole year a single company to sponsor the yellow jersey. They even posted an article about it on their pages, so maybe somebody will react as Pogi will likely wear it. But nothing. As a result, they are dealing with a budget shortfall of around 10% (~450,000 CHF). Only 15 teams will be at the start, four WorldTour teams are skipping it using UCI rules allowing one WT race skip per season and Tudor is the only ProTeam that wanted to start there. And organizers are afraid that they won’t be able to find sponsors for next year to be able to continue either as a WorldTour race or at least at a lower level. But in a similar situation is another Swiss WorldTour race, the Tour de Suisse. Already in September last year the organizers announced that a race once called a 4th Grand Tour and being the most prestigious one-week stage race had to be shortened from 8 to 5 stages for this year. Why? Due to financial problems. And in recent years not many big stars wanted to race the Tour de Suisse and Dauphine overtook them absolutely with all the big stars often racing there rather. And Dauphine or Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes now became the best one-week stage race. But why is this happening? Is it because of the dates of the events, UCI points strategies of teams, or no interest in cycling in Switzerland? I don’t have an answer and I am just speculating. So why is this happening? #TDR2026
