In his remarks, Consul General Sanders said “It is an honor and privilege to join you here today in celebration of this joyous holiday symbolizing perseverance and the triumph of light over darkness. Today, I join your community, and millions of Jewish Americans in the United States in celebrating the hope and promise of this season. May the light of this holiday shine brightly in your homes and spirits. Hanukkah Sameach!”

We lit the first #Hanukkah candle in Hampstead today.
Even in the darkness hanging over because of today’s murderous rampage, the Menorah’s light burns bright, and the Jewish people stand proud and unbroken, like the Maccabees before them. Chag Sameach!

Joyeux Hanoucca!
Hanukkah Sameach!

Just last week, I joined 200 mayors from across North America for the Combat Antisemitism Movement to discuss the rising trend in antisemitism across our nation. It was a powerful and eye opening 48-hours as we focused on what our Jewish community is facing in America.
This morning, I am deeply saddened and outraged by the horrific violence reported at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. This hateful and antisemitic act stole innocent lives during a moment meant for peace and joy.
There is no place for such violence or hatred in our world. Today, as our community gathers for a menorah lighting here in Sioux Falls, we do so with heavy hearts and firm resolve — standing in solidarity with the victims, their families, and the Jewish community in SD and around the world, and reaffirming our commitment to unity, compassion, and standing against hate in all its forms.

Mr. Mivasair, you failed to mention that Zalman Schachter-Shalomi was expelled for the nonsense he was preaching. His smichah means nothing, just like your smichah means nothing. Your only role in life is to hate on Jews who actually want to live by the Torah. At least be honest about that. That is what you pursue. But, there is always time for you to do Teshuvah.

"How can you call yourself a rabbi?"
In 1991, I graduated @RRC_edu.
Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, who was given smichah by the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, gave me his smichah.
Thousands of people call me rabbi.
My work as a rabbi in these times is grounded in the only two mitzvot out of 613 that are expressed with the word "pursue / רדוף":
"Justice, justice you shall pursue" צדק צדק תרדף and
"Seek peace and pursue it" בקש שלום ורדפהו.

I was right there in 1971. The whole area was rubble of Palestinian houses that had been demolished after the families living in them were thrown out so Jews could have more room to pray at the Wall.
I didn't really know what I was seeing. Now I understand clearly.
There is no "holiness" in a house built on stolen land.
אין קדושה בארץ כבושה.

A house like this has no price. And it really exists. Waking up every morning, opening your eyes and standing in front of the Western Wall 🇮🇱 feeling the holiness as close as possible.✡️ Would you like to live in a house like this ?

And yes — I know my unapologetically honest positions, including on Israel and on other important issues, were part of this election. I stand by them. I would rather win or lose by a thin margin while being true to what I believe, than be politically cautious or calculated simply to gain votes. Now, the next chapter begins. I am optimistic — deeply optimistic — about what we can achieve.
Let’s get to work.

I also want to thank Jack Edery. Campaigns are tests of ideas and values — and Jack ran a respectful and substantive campaign. Democracy can be passionate, even heated — but it can also be decent, constructive and focused on the issues. That’s something worth preserving. To my colleagues — councillors-elect — congratulations. I look forward to working side-by-side over the coming years. Collaboration and shared purpose are what make progress possible.

Last night was extraordinary — and I am profoundly honoured to have earned the trust of our community for another four years. This is a mandate to build. To elevate. To take on the big challenges with energy and optimism. We have real goals to achieve together, and I am excited to get to work advancing meaningful, practical, forward-looking solutions for our community.

This year, we’ve taken our Remembrance Day tribute to new heights. Near Hampstead Park, a powerful new street mural now stands as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and enduring gratitude — honouring all who have served, those who continue to serve, and the generations yet to come. We thank our soldiers for their unwavering dedication and service to our nation.

Last Sunday’s incredible voter turnout showed just how much energy and passion there is for our community. The lines were long because people care — and that’s something to celebrate! This Sunday, we’ll have double the polling stations so everyone can cast their vote quickly and easily. Let’s keep that momentum going strong — every vote matters, and together, we can keep Hampstead moving in the right direction!
