The entire AV, EDR, and SOC industry is a SCAM. Has your organization been a victim of ransomware? Start the computer in DEBUG MODE. DUH. Then simply delete the malware. It's as simple as that.

@DanniBrener Allow to introduce you to some new words: "Most" "Some" If you substitute them for the word "All", they will save you from feeling the need to post tiresome textwalls disclaiming what you just said.

For a while, @BrandSanderson was the great hope for a general strike against Audible. He talked about it publicly, and made some moves in that direction. Audible flew out with some c-suite executives to flatter him in person, offer him a better deal, and promise to offer a better deal for everyone. And he fell for it. He took the initial offer of the opposition. You never take the initial offer of the opposition. The deal he got is a secret. The deal they eventually offered everyone not only isn't better, it's actually worse. Except it's been deliberately made almost impossible to understand, so that authors don't catch on. Brandon was the wrong guy for the job. Brandon is too nice. He wants everyone to love him. What we needed was a disagreeable bastard who is the hypothetical love child of Ayn Rand and Donald Trump. Audible rules over authors in the way that most authoritarian governments prevent revolutions... by bribing anyone with power to abandon the interests of the common herd, offering them a separate deal. Right now, there's no prominent author who's willing to take a financial hit and turn down that individual sweetheart deal to lead a mass defection to another platform. And that's what it would take. I don't think a better deal can be squeezed out of Audible even if they had souls and were willing to offer one. Here's why: corporate expenditures scale to revenue. If Audible is able to give authors 5%, and take 95%, then they find places to spend that money, a lot of which is someone's salary. That means that, while Audible doesn't leave enough meat on the bone to feed most authors, much less authors an publishers, they simply can't leave more without laying someone off. Someone they see and work with every day. Audible employees aren't going to tighten the belt and lay off their friends in order to be fair to a bunch of authors they never see or speak to. The customers aren't going to desert them, either. They are used to the pricing model, and totally unaware of the fact that it's cheap because they are eating the seed corn. So the only way out is for authors to defect en masse to a new platform that takes 15%, which requires a prominent author to lead the way, taking a personal loss to do so. This requires character, which A-list authors are not noted for. Failing that, one of two things can happen. Authors can be squeezed out of the audiobook market and stop making audiobooks because they are losing money at it. Or authors can adapt by reducing our production costs, in which case Audible becomes the platform that charges you 15.99/month for access to unlimited AI narrated slop.

Love him or hate him, this is one area I appreciated @BrandSanderson chiming in on, especially around Audible. He is a big enough name that he would probably be able to negotiate better rates and such, but made several videos about the situation with Audible and didn't release some of his projects there, at least at the time, don't know the current state. I've been buying through Kindle and Audible because it doesn't feel like there are alternatives in most cases, but have been decrypting the books and using any app I want and Kobo to actually read them.

@AnEriksenWife @Devon_Eriksen_ @BrandSanderson in link provided with BookFunnel order email, you get a zip archive. In that zip archive are 42 files. 41 of those files were added 12 Oct, 1 of them 3 Aug… Cover.jpeg. It looks like the JPEG is just the old version - potentially only an issue with downloading the zip file.

Just want to share some insanely happy news. I know I've been really sad and down recently, but yesterday may go down as the best day of my entire life. Not just that I've ever lived so far, but very well might be one of the best days I'll ever live going forward. Low key locked in my first major website sponsor, and secured a wildly well paying work contract as well all on the same day. I can't tell you how dark my thoughts have been recently, truly how horrible and scared I've felt. Yesterday still doesnt feel real but my god do I feel blessed. It seems the hard work is finally paying off ☺️

Make your own vpn: 1. SSH to a host with: ssh user@host -D 8081 2. Point your browser proxy settings to localhost port 8081, and mark it as a SOCKS v5 proxy. 3. You now are proxying your browser traffic to where that host is, like a vpn.

@Steph3nSims I think discussing this would be good for college level or mid-level career transition. The market is growing but also the expectation from juniors.

I've been having a lot of conversations with university students who have graduated or are graduating soon, as well as others trying to move into the cyber security space, and their challenges getting employment. I'm wondering if a stream on this topic would be useful?

# Basic Cursor Workflow - Create Project - Prompt Cursor to a bare-bones initial state - git init . && git commit -am “init” - Create Branch vibe-code - Prompt for new feature - IF prompts are successful commit ELSE revert to last state and prompt again - Only commit when new feature is secure and functional (some devs are saving per git  feature branch and committing upstream but I kinda think that’s too slow)
