Living for the rest of your life with the unfulfilled desire to draw is far, far, far worse than the temporary discomfort of starting from scratch and “feeling behind younger artists”. Get back into it and don’t stop. Your future self will thank you.

It’s actually so lovely to see so many people who’ve taken up drawing as adults. It makes me feel I’m not on my own. And I’m really glad if this helps someone else not to give up either.

@jessevanderbilt for starters you should stop looking at social media, don't bombard your brain with useless stuff constantly. stick to your study material. creativity needs room, new information needs time to sink

@ArtAphant There you go! If you can’t quite picture it, just move your hand relying purely on muscle memory – maybe one day you’ll manage it without needing a hundred references!

@jessevanderbilt Yep! Never realized why I couldn’t picture something mentally until years later. Jumped back into it with better understanding to hopefully work around the limitation. Hoping muscle memory and proportion study eventually gets me away from the reference dependency.

@jessevanderbilt I was on a similar situation. I couldn't do art or music because it didn't made enough money. So I took career in engineering since I was decent enough to make some money with it. But after years of working, I finally made this account as an outlet to ease my creative pressure.

@GiantTacoHead1 I know exactly how you feel! You have to sit down and do it, knowing full well that what comes out will be a mess, because, unfortunately, you already know it’s wrong, but you can’t fix it yet due to a lack of experience!

@jessevanderbilt Something I've learned is that the wisdom of age is sometimes more valuable then the energy of youth.
Seeing young artists pop off but trip over their insecurities or ego is always a shame

@GiantTacoHead1 By the way, there are now loads of tutorials available online, especially Chinese ones. We used to rely entirely on Bammess, but there’s nothing about colour there at all.
It’s actually great, though I must admit I’m a bit jealous. It’s about time to be cringey too 😈
