America is recalibrating. For all the noise, tariff tensions, Russian oil pressure, and the occasional Trumpian unpredictability, Washington is once again discovering a basic geopolitical truth: India is not a transactional partner. India is a steady friend. And in today’s world, that matters. China is not a normal challenge for America. It is a long-term strategic, technological, military and economic rival. Beijing is not just competing in trade. It is competing in semiconductors, AI, rare earths, maritime routes, ports, supply chains, surveillance technology and influence across the Global South. And of course TAIWAN. That is why India becomes indispensable. Not because India will become anyone’s camp follower. It will not. But because India gives America something very few countries can: scale, democracy, military weight, market depth, technological capability, maritime geography and civilisational confidence. Marco Rubio’s visit must be read in that frame. Donald Trump's mid-conference phone call also is in similar vein, to regain the camaraderie with India. Trade can be negotiated. Tariffs can be argued over. Oil purchases can create friction. But the strategic logic of India-US ties is too big to be derailed by temporary irritants. India sits at the heart of the Indo-Pacific. India is central to the Quad. India watches the Indian Ocean. India has the demographic and economic depth to become a supply-chain alternative. India has the political will to stand up to China on land, at sea and in global forums. That is why Trump’s outreach and Rubio’s visit are significant. The US may flirt with tactical resets with China. It may try to manage Beijing. It may bargain hard. But when Washington looks at the next 25 years, it knows India is the serious partner that can help balance Chinese pressure without becoming a liability. And India’s achievement under PM Narendra Modi is that this relationship is no longer built on old dependency. It is built on Indian leverage. India will buy energy where it serves India. India will trade where it benefits India. India will partner with the US without surrendering strategic autonomy. India will work with the West without becoming a junior partner. That is the new grammar of Indian diplomacy. A confident India can disagree with America and still remain valuable to America. That is why this visit matters. It shows that despite pressure points, Washington understands that India is not a country to be lectured, sanctioned, patronised or taken for granted. India is a power to be engaged. China has made that reality sharper. And PM Modi’s diplomacy has made it impossible to ignore.
Rahul Shivshankar@RShivshankar

President Trump saying “I am a big, big Modi fan” is a welcome expression. But Washington now needs to walk the talk. Here are 5 ways: 1. Commit to the QUAD Summit instead of de-prioritizing the grouping meant to balance China in the Indo-Pacific. 2. Stop hyphenating India and Pakistan. Praising both Shehbaz Sharif and Gen Asim Munir while saying “I wanted to thank him for not going into the war” sends the wrong signal. 3. Recognize India’s energy compulsions. Trump says India is buying “massive amounts of oil from Russia” but India has consistently argued energy security requires diversified sourcing during a war it did not start. 4. Move beyond the “tariff king” rhetoric used primarily to bash India into a corner and undermine its autonomy. 5. Respect India’s long-standing position against equivalence with Pakistan. Unfortunately, Trump’s line during Op Sindoor reinforced precisely that equivalence.

Who is harvesting it? Who is building the network? Who is funding the amplification? Who is directing the narrative? And why does every such “organic youth movement” eventually point in the same anti-India direction? Spoke to @RShivshankar on the Cockroach Janata Party.

Misreading a Supreme Court judgment to announce an “eliminate stray dogs” campaign is not governance. And if the law is still unclear, ask someone competent to explain it. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has announced a drive to “eliminate/kill dangerous/harmful street dogs,” which is exactly where wording and implementation matter. The legal basis is clear: the Supreme Court allowed euthanasia only for dogs that are rabid, incurably ill, or demonstrably dangerous/aggressive, and only after qualified veterinary assessment under the PCA Act and ABC Rules. It also directed states to expand ABC centres, sterilisation and vaccination capacity. The judgment does not permit a blanket killing drive against stray dogs. The Supreme Court did not give any state a licence for mass cruelty. The scientific route is clear: sterilisation, vaccination, ABC centres, shelters, waste management, designated feeding zones and accountable civic systems. Not panic. Not bloodlust. Not headline governance. If a Chief Minister cannot understand the difference between a calibrated court order and a killing drive, he should at least have the decency to read the judgment before weaponising it. Stray dogs are not criminals. Failed municipal systems are. Implement the law. Control rabies. Protect citizens. Sterilise and vaccinate. Isolate genuinely dangerous and rabid dogs through due process. But do not convert a Supreme Court order into a political slogan for cruelty. India can protect humans without abandoning humanity. @BhagwantMann

A political lab project is underway by the deep state - a 'Trojan horse' has been planted from US. This is how Arvind Kejriwal was manufactured once. Now it looks like the same lab is testing a Gen Z prototype. The Cockroach Janta Party is a political influence experiment, purportedly by Abhijeet Dipke - a former AAP social media worker. India has seen this template before. First, sell it as innocence. Then sell it as youth anger. Then sell it as anti-corruption. Then sell it as democracy. Then use it to attack every institution that does not bend to the ecosystem. The real questions are simple: Who is funding this scale? Who is advising the narrative? Who is managing the amplification? Which NGO networks are watching this with interest? Which foreign influence ecosystems will benefit if India’s youth is pushed into distrust, rage and institutional contempt? Because this is how destabilisation projects begin. India’s youth must not become raw material for another Soros-style, AAP-style, NGO-backed political experiment.

'Unknown gunmen' do not hold press conferences. They do not trend hashtags. They do not issue statements. They do not seek credit. They simply appear in the places Pakistan believed were safe for its terror assets. Arjumand Gulzar Dar alias Hamza Burhan, the Al-Badr terrorist linked to the 2020 grenade attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama, has 'been eliminated in Muzaffarabad, PoK. A qualified doctor who chose terrorism. For years, Pakistan treated such men as strategic assets. Give them shelter. Give them aliases. Give them safe routes. Let them bleed India, then hide them behind deniability. But now, across Pakistan and PoK, a strange phrase keeps returning: Unknown gunmen. The phrase has become a nightmare for handlers, recruiters, commanders and ideologues who once believed consequence would never find them. Pakistan built safe houses for terrorists. Unknown gunmen are turning them into waiting rooms. With only a cold reminder to the ecosystem that protected him: Some debts are not written off. Some files are not closed. Some names are not forgotten. Some revenge is served very, very, very cold as we found out in #Dhurandhar2‌TheRevenge

The Modi-Meloni “Melody” reel has gone viral globally, and predictably, the opposition is having a meltdown. Because for them, India’s diplomacy must always look apologetic, joyless and insecure. They cannot digest a Prime Minister who can build strategic partnerships, command global respect, strengthen India’s position with Europe, and still connect with people in a language the internet understands. Rahul Gandhi having a meltdown over Modi-Meloni going viral is not surprising. This is a man who has never understood the difference between diplomacy and insecurity. When India’s Prime Minister commands global warmth, Rahul calls it drama. When India builds strategic partnerships, he calls it optics. When India is liked, watched and respected, his ecosystem starts sulking. But before Rahul Gandhi lectures anyone on national interest, Indians should remember the record. This is the man around who went partying after 26/11 in my city Mumbai, when India was still mourning. This is the man who referred to terrorist Masood Azhar as “Masood Azhar ji”. This is the man who called the aftermath of surgical strikes “khoon ki dalali”. This is the man whose party ecosystem repeatedly demanded proof when India hit terror across the border. This is the man who stood with the JNU crowd when Afzal Guru slogans had shaken the nation. This is the man whose party first denied and then admitted his meeting with the Chinese envoy during Doklam stand-off. This is the man who goes abroad without disclosing where money is coming from to fund his trips. So forgive us if we do not take lectures on diplomacy from Rahul Gandhi. Modi’s diplomacy is turning India into a respected global power. Rahul’s politics is still stuck in resentment, entitlement and national self-loathing. There is a term called 'soft-power' in the diplomatic dictionary and the ilk of Rahul Gandhi won't know that because India no longer applies it to the Masood Azhars of the world.

In the light of the leaked 'secret document' cypher, it is now established that the US deep state acting through then Asst Sec of State Donald Lu had engineered Imran Khan's ouster in 2024. So clearly Lu had perjured himself before the House Committee on Foreign Relations that the US was not responsible for regime change in Pakistan that caused Imran's dismissal as PM - arabnews.com/node/2479971/p…

This entire 'SECRET DOCUMENT' cypher getting leaked will make Asim Munir very, very angry. Very angry. Because it reopens the one file Rawalpindi wanted buried forever: Imran Khan’s removal, Biden administration's pressure, Pakistan’s ISI & military establishment, and the “all will be forgiven” line that never stopped haunting Islamabad. The newly released three-page “SECRET / NO CIRCULATION” cypher reportedly records a meeting between U.S. Assistant Secretary Donald Lu and Pakistan’s ambassador, where Washington expressed anger over Imran Khan’s visit to Moscow on the very day Russia invaded Ukraine, and warned that relations would become difficult if Khan remained in power. Weeks later, Khan held up a document at a public rally and alleged a foreign conspiracy against his government. In April 2022, he was removed through Pakistan’s first successful no-confidence vote against a Prime Minister - backed by MUNIR and opposition. Since 2022, Pakistan’s generals sold the world a story. That Imran was finished because of domestic politics. That there was no external pressure. That the military had nothing to do with the democratic collapse. That Pakistan was simply moving forward. Now the full cypher is in public view, and suddenly the entire script looks fragile again. This is the problem with running a country through uniforms, fear and managed narratives. Documents survive. Timelines survive. Betrayal survives. Asim Munir wants to present himself as Washington’s useful man, the Gulf’s security broker, Iran’s mediator and Pakistan’s supreme power centre. But this release reminds everyone that Pakistan’s real crisis is not India, not America, not Imran Khan. Pakistan’s real crisis is its army treating democracy as rented property. If Pakistan wants to save face now, it has only one serious option: Release Imran Khan. Because keeping him in jail after this only makes Rawalpindi look guiltier, weaker and more terrified of one man than ever before. Documents Via @DropSiteNews : dropsitenews.com/p/pakistan-med…

I wrote for the editorial page of The Times of India today: When technology can fabricate faces, voices and entire events, authenticity cannot be left to chance. India’s 2026 amendments to the IT Rules are about making deception traceable, accountability enforceable and digital truth visible and definitely not stifling innovation. In the age of deepfakes and synthetic media (Synthetically Generated Info - SGI), the real battle is no longer what is hot. It is what is fact and what is not. @timesofindia

Why was Imran Khan arrested and put in jail? Now very clear. Asim Munir and Joe Biden's America conspired to get Imran Khan out of the way. Because the former Pakistan cricket captain made the biggest mistake to run foreign policy independently without approval of ISI and Pakistan military.

Energy security is national security. Up to 30 million barrels linked to India’s strategic petroleum reserve architecture is not a routine oil deal. This is India quietly building geopolitical insurance in the Gulf. For a country that imports most of its oil, this is not routine diplomacy. This is national security, economic stability and geopolitical foresight rolled into one. At a time when West Asia is unstable, oil routes are vulnerable, Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive chokepoints, and energy can be weaponised overnight, PM Narendra Modi’s UAE visit has delivered something far bigger than supply assurance. India and the UAE are deepening strategic petroleum reserve cooperation, with ADNOC storing up to 30 million barrels exclusively for India. India is also exploring crude storage opportunities in Fujairah, one of the UAE’s most important oil hubs, alongside LNG and LPG storage cooperation. Because energy security is not just about buying oil. It is about where the oil is stored, who controls the supply chain, how quickly India can access reserves during crisis, and whether Bharat has friendly infrastructure outside the immediate pressure points of conflict. This is the geopolitical win. India is not waiting for global volatility to settle. India is building cushions before the shock arrives. The UAE has become part of India’s strategic energy architecture. And this comes with a larger defence partnership framework covering maritime security, cyber defence, secure communications, advanced technology and joint training. PM Modi’s Gulf diplomacy is moving India from buyer to strategic partner, from dependence to resilience, from energy vulnerability to energy leverage.

Don't tell me I did not warn you! Fake Aadhar factories will keep tumbling out from West Bengal. The first - discovered in a Trinamool Congress office. via @republic @BanglaRepublic
Mahesh Jethmalani@JethmalaniM

The real border breach! Where is it happening? After the West Bengal election and the massive victory of BJP, everyone is talking about the porous borders. But the real border breach may have been happening inside fake Aadhaar shops in West Bengal. In the last decade, multiple terror-linked cases in West Bengal have shown the same disturbing pattern: illegal entry, fake Indian identity, fake Aadhaar, fake voter documents, SIM cards, rented rooms, movement across states, and then terror networks hiding in plain sight. From the 2017 ABT/Al-Qaeda-linked arrests in Kolkata, to the NIA’s JMB case in South 24 Parganas, to the 2026 terror module busted across Bengal and Tamil Nadu, fake Aadhaar keeps appearing in every case. Even 2 Chinese nationals were detained at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal with forged Aadhaar cards, expired visas, and fake passports after traveling to Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan. This is infrastructure. Fake Aadhaar factories are not just helping someone get a job or a rented room. They are helping terror-linked operatives become invisible inside India. It is a weaponised identity. And that is why the new Suvendu Adhikari government in West Bengal has to treat it as a national-security priority from Day One. Every fake Aadhaar factory must be mapped. Every syndicate producing forged identity papers must be broken. Every SIM-card racket, fake voter ID pipeline, illegal rental network, and document middleman operating along the border belt must be investigated. Fake identity networks do not merely help one infiltrator survive. They create an ecosystem where foreign handlers, sleeper cells, recruiters, couriers and illegal operatives can disappear into the crowd. If Bengal wants to secure itself, the crackdown cannot stop at the fence. It has to enter the printing shops, cyber cafés, Aadhaar enrolment rackets, panchayat-level document chains, local political protection networks and every factory where Indian identity was being manufactured for people who had no right to possess it. Now that the work to dethrone the evil TMC government has been done, the bigger challenge awaits - detoxifying the state’s security architecture after years of border softness, document fraud and political patronage. Because Bengal is not just another state. Bengal is India’s eastern gate. And if that gate is secured, India’s intelligence network becomes stronger. If that gate is compromised, every fake Aadhaar can become the beginning of a terror file.

Operation Sindoor showed restraint. The next one may not. General Upendra Dwivedi has delivered the only language terroristan Pakistan understands with zero diplomatic 'softness'. “If Pakistan wants to retain its place in history and geography, it must stop state-sponsored terrorism.” For decades, Pakistan has exported jihad, sheltered terrorists, trained proxies, denied everything, and then played victim when India responded. Pakistan now has a simple choice: shut down the terror factories or discover that geography is not guaranteed to states that manufacture terrorism as foreign policy.

Bhojshala was a sacred seat of Goddess Saraswati, a centre of learning, faith and civilisational memory - the honourable court has now recognised what generations of Hindus always knew. Ayodhya was a landmark. Ayodhya restored faith. Bhojshala is the next great civilisational correction. For centuries, Hindus were told to forget, compromise, adjust, and accept historical wounds as “settled history”. But truth has a way of surviving conquest and distortion of history.
