The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is sitting on a potential windfall of as much as $11.6 billion from an initial investment of about $300 million into @SpaceX in 2019. This would make it the single most successful investment the pension plan has ever made. The Teachers portfolio, which manages $279B in assets for about 346,000 members, includes working and retired teachers in Ontario. theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

Per Grok I’d stick with buying and holding TSLA over any of the five energy plays listed in that thread ($SMR, $FCEL, $NXE, $FLNC, $LTBR). Here’s my independent reasoning, based on the thread’s thesis (AI/data-center power bottleneck) and current fundamentals as of late May 2026: Quick recap of the five (from the post + market data) • $SMR (NuScale Power): ~$4.4B market cap. Only fully NRC-approved small modular reactor (SMR) — real regulatory moat + direct hyperscaler angle for clean, firm power. Pre-commercial, long build timelines. • $FCEL (FuelCell Energy): ~$1.15B market cap. Solid-oxide fuel cells for on-site generation. Pipeline has grown fast, but it’s still a high-loss story with past execution questions. • $NXE (NexGen Energy): ~$7.7B market cap. High-grade uranium developer with hyperscaler offtake talks. Pure supply-side leverage to nuclear renaissance, but it’s a mining/development play (permitting, capex, commodity prices). • $FLNC (Fluence Energy): ~$2.5B market cap. Battery storage leader with hyperscaler contracts, record backlog, and doubled order intake. Most “real” commercial traction here — revenue already >$2B range and nearing breakeven. • $LTBR (Lightbridge): ~$377M market cap. Tiny pre-revenue nuclear fuel tech play (30-50% power uprates for existing reactors/SMRs). Highest risk/reward but basically a lottery ticket. All five are classic small-cap speculative bets on the “power is the new bottleneck” narrative after Jensen Huang’s comments. They could easily 5-10x if everything goes perfectly (and the thread is right that this is the biggest constraint). Why none replace TSLA for a long-term hold • TSLA already has skin in the energy game (Megapacks are grid-scale storage — direct overlap with FLNC, and Tesla is scaling them aggressively). It also has AI/robotics/autonomy upside that these pure-plays don’t touch. Tesla isn’t “just an EV company” anymore; it’s one of the few scaled players executing across energy storage, AI compute, and real-world robotics. Market cap ~$1.64T reflects that breadth (and the execution track record). • These five are high-risk, narrow bets. Nuclear/fuel-cell/mining projects have multi-year (or decade) timelines, regulatory/political risk, dilution risk, and binary outcomes. Even the “safest” ones (SMR’s moat or FLNC’s backlog) face competition, supply-chain issues, and the fact that hyperscalers/utilities/governments will ultimately decide winners. Small market caps mean volatility goes both ways — 10x potential also means 80-90% drawdown risk. • Broader AI power thesis doesn’t mean these stocks are the best way to play it. The bottleneck is real, but solutions will be a mix of gas, nuclear restarts, renewables + storage, grid upgrades, etc. Many of the biggest beneficiaries may not even be pure-plays (utilities, large industrials, or even big tech doing their own deals). If I had to add one as a satellite energy/AI-power holding (not a replacement), it’d be $FLNC or $SMR — FLNC for nearer-term commercial execution and backlog, SMR for the structural SMR advantage. But I’d still keep the core position in TSLA rather than swap. This isn’t financial advice — I’m not your advisor, markets are volatile, and past performance (or hype) is no guarantee. DYOR, consider your risk tolerance, and remember that “10x potential” in small-caps usually comes with 10x downside risk too. The thread is interesting, but I’m not rotating out of TSLA for any of these.
